Hey everyone, I am new here but have been observing for awhile. Lot of knowledge and resources here. I bought a 41 Ford 3/4 ton truck that is rough. No grille or body panels that attach. I am trying to determine exactly what I am missing. Does anyone have or can anyone point me to an exploded view of the front sheet metal/grille/etc. This is going to be a starting retirement rod for me and I am trying to pull all my parts together before I get to the sheet metal work. Many Thanks!
In addition to asking here, you might also want to check over on the Ford Barn and Ford Truck Enthusiasts (FTE). Lots of good info on both in addition to what you'll get here. On the Barn there is a member expavr that has a really nice '40 tonner. He can give lots of info about '40/41 big trucks and tonners in particular. Its been a while since I had my '40 1 1/2 ton flatbeds but I can tell you that the front end sheet metal for the 3/4 tons and larger trucks are the same but are different from the 1/2 ton p/u's. The wheels on the 3/4 tons are wide fives and the tonners are pretty much unique to themselves. The 1 1/2 ton 2o inch split rim duals are 5 on 8 inch centers. Good luck and welcome to the HAMB.
Also, you might list where you are located on your profile or at least a general vicinity in case there is someone close to you that can help out with parts or assistance.
Thanks for the info 51504bat! I do appreciate it! I will see about making some of those other connections and getting the profile updated. Looking forward to moving forward on this build.
Couple of other good sources of big truck info on the FTE: Stu who goes by truckdog62563 and gb sisson who I believe is on the Ford Barn as well. Gus built an amazing jail bar woodie from scratch and has a small herd of other flathead powered trucks. Some photos of your truck would be nice as we like photos.
Not much to see right now. You can see the bed in the background. Rest of the sheet metal (such as it is) is in the bed. S10 donor is sacrificing its frame and collecting some other goodies. Always did love to create something out of nothing. Sent from my F5121 using Tapatalk
All of the front sheet metal and the cab came off of a 3/4 ton flatbed truck an old ice plant here in our town owned back in the 40's. All that I was able to salvage was the cab and most of the front sheet metal (hood, fenders, aprons). Someone had already swiped the grille and the grille shell. The guy had the stuff setting on an old Studebaker frame. The doors still have the remains of the business name and phone number which was a 3 digit number! Sent from my F5121 using Tapatalk
40/41 big truck grills in good shape are hard to come by. Back in the day they were used as trucks and the front grills took their fair share of hits. I'm not sure what exactly the frame it is sitting on is but for sure the axles aren't big Ford truck.
It is for certain that it is a "big truck" by it's history and the front sheet metal only. It is going to eventually become a nice driver with a bit of "rat" thrown in. It will end up nice as that is the ultimate end of every driver I have ever had. It will take a while but I am looking forward to it. Sent from my F5121 using Tapatalk
sounds like it's probably not going to be built within the "on topic" guidelines of this forum....just a warning
OK, Sorry about that. I will try to get myself more familiar with the protocols before I post any further comments in the forums. Thanks... Sent from my F5121 using Tapatalk
