Started banging away on a roadster project I picked up to finish. My good friend put this together. Original steel with some Brookville patches. Original rails, built up 324 Olds, 37 LaSalle trans, 39 dash, 40 front end with Lincoln brakes. Was bodyworked and sprayed with a flattened down single stage. Runs and drives but needs a few things. Great car, dig the Olds/LaSalle combo. You mentioned the '40 frontend, is the wishbone also '40? And is it unsplit? I've got a '40 wishbone for my '34 and I was wondering if that works/fits.
They are split. The brackets to mount the wishbone ends are on the inside edge of the frame and also angled. Looking from up above it appears that they are not split doing it this way. These 37-40ish front ends are tough because you have very little room for tire turning clearance when splitting the bones. Is there any particular reason to mounting the brackets on the inside or outside of the frame rails? My 31A, on the original frame, with split bones has the brackets mounted on the inside rail and the wishbone connects on the engine side of the bracket. This puts the rod end and zerk fitting very close to the exhaust.
On 28-36 axles, when splitting bones the ends can be mounted on the outside or inside the frame rails..and all points in between. Its a matter of where youd like them. 37-41 axles have a small distance between the spring perch hole and the kingpin hole. If you dont tuck the ends of the bones under when splitting, ( using a 37-41 axle) the tires will hit the bones when turning. Bringing the rod end in from the back or through the front of your mounting plate is all preference. I have seen it done both way Sent from my SM-G892A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app

...You are fortunate that that other dash which was I think 40 Ford came out so easy...and that does look right at home...
