VIN decode

    anyone know of a good online resource for VIN number decoders? figured I'd ask while on the intermajig at work. thanks!

    from what I've seen, each kind of car will have a different vin sequence, and you will only find info about Chevys on chevy web pages, and info about Fords on ford web pages, etc.

    and I think some of the books I have will give more info than you'll find on a web page, and with a lot less work...post a vin, leave Xs for the last few digits if you're worried about privacy, and I or someone else will help decode it for you. I have books that cover 50s-80s.

  6. You can get a book from the National Insurance Crime Bureau which will help decode VINS. They might have an on-line search as well. I'm not sure how far back their current book goes, but they are as good as any place to start. I think I have books that cover the past 15-20 years somewhere:rolleyes:
