53 Chevy coupe I'm slowly working on complete with moss-tinted primer. Despite the surface rust and moss, it's got a super-solid body. Cleaned nearly 20 pounds of fossilized North Carolina mud and chassis grease from the front suspension recently. Next goal is to get it sanded down and re-primed with red-oxide.

38 Poncho is a clean car that was a previous owner's stalled 1980s-90s restoration project.

 

Old Morris Minor and my latest Morris that I hope to be rocking some school bus yellow in about a month.

My '58 Apache from a few years back.

 

After all the years and cars I've built or redone I should know this, but am uncertain. I can't decide on a final color(s) for my 58 Edsel Corsair two door hardtop very mild custom, but am considering shooting a coat of tan or beige primer on it. The car was gold/white two tone with a brown/white interior which is very nice, and which I will keep. I've jammed the hood/firewall/trunk/doors with a tan Duplicolor enamel to cover the awful factory gold color and clean it up. My question is ........
Are most primers tintable within reason? A suede finish will work fine for it as a daily driver until I decide whether or not to actually paint it. I plan to do the roof/hood/trunk/doors in a tan suede, and do the side coves and area under the tailights in a candy tangerine or copper. It's going to roll on www Diamondbacks with tangerine or copper painted wide steelies and baby. The car and colors may not appeal to most, but it looks damn good in my creative imagination.
Thoughts/suggestions welcome.

1940 Willys B/Gas & C/Gas coupe COLORIZED…it came up flat black primer.

Ever since I had my 16 mm color films digitized for computer use and found a film/photo that was our 1940 Willys Coupe, I am beginning to think it was painted a flat black primer. The photo (computer enhanced photo) just shows some grass color in the background and instead of the originally stated red primer, the Willys coupe comes up flat black.

When a computer program that specializes in colorization does it, here are the results:

After my brother passed away in Santa Barbara, we lost the original VHS tape I made for him to watch (during his last days...) of the Willys being raced at Lions and in the pits. After I lost that VHS tape, I knew I still had the 16mm color film somewhere in the closet files. Well, in a desperate search everywhere, they were also missing from the 16mm color reel file box.

I contacted my brother’s sons and wife and they all said they do not have the VHS tape or the film reel. So, when I posted the original statement about our Willys (on the HAMB,) the original build and then painting it a red primer, maybe that was not the correct color. I remember my brother’s idea that we were not going to have a completely finished Willys coupe until the motor was running great. We were going to save up for the final finishing push, prior to the September U.S. Nationals in 1960 Detroit.

We had just come back from buying some black frame paint at the garishly decorated, yellow, Standard Brands Paint Store and I thought we purchased red primer for the outside of the Willys Coupe.

So, the early photos that are still around show a flat black primer, but until I find any other photos or the original 16 mm color films of our 671 SBC 1940 Willys coupe still hiding somewhere in our file boxes, the memory will still be up in the air.

The memory tells me that the rims were black, not the colorized red or light primer. That is because the black rims mounted the Bruce Slicks were on the 58 Chevy Impala first. We used the same Bruce Slicks from the Impala on the Willys rear in 1960.
