Next job is to blow apart the front sheet metal. Repair and prime. At the same time ADD dictates that I begin making engine connections , steering, exhaust and brakes all at the same time. Think I’ll aim for atotalnincompoop type paint job....

damn that's short! (that's what she said) I presume this is a rear driveshaft... How will the rear suspension move and not yank your little shaft? I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious..

If you put another coat of paint on it, it will lengthen it by 20% :)

Yeah. I dunno how it’s gonna go. Maybe I should put a soft , thick bushing on the transmission mount to give it a bit more room to flex? They were happy to take my money and make it for me!

I haven’t been doing much on the project since I nearly had my lungs fall out after doing some bondo sanding and painting without any protection.

I was like a kid in an e cigarette store.

Six weeks later I’m nearly back to normal but I don’t know how many more times my body is gonna put up with my stupidity.

I hear basket weaving is a nice hobby.

  9. Stamp collecting is even safer! (as long as you don't lick the stamps)
I have a bodyman friend that is slowly dying of COPD because he never wore a mask while painting. He used to brag that when painting a car, he had to step out the back door of his garage between coats to vomit.
When I needed a short driveshaft for a tricky location, I bought a jeep driveshaft that had CV joints and shortened it myself. I've had it well over 5000 RPMs and it held together and didn't vibrate!

(Steve, you have so many interesting gizmos! )

You could always put an independent rear end in it...corvette, jag, etc. Then a short shaft won't matter.

I feel for you and hope you heal. I think that basket weaving cause splinters

I painted and did bodywork for years. Mostly lacquer jobs. Lungs are fair, knees and shoulders are gone. I never puked after spraying, but did drink a lot of cheap wine afterwards.

I also welded on a steering column and the plastic bushing on the bottom got hot...the fumes paralyzed my lungs. NOW that was scary! That also happened when I was a 16 year old kid welding galvanized pipe.

  11. Yeah, that plastic bushing was probably Acetyl/Delrin and when burned, gives off formaldehyde! (embalming fluid)
My "gizmo" is a Datsun Z car differential, stuffed in a Triumph Spitfire IRS rear.
