As promised. Progress has been very slow. Floors were mostly fiberglass repaired. Also learned that bondo over spray foam is a option for some people. I think I have gone way past my skill level on this project, but here we go. Here are a few pics and I was just playing around and had the flathead purring like a kitten.
Screws, weld a little, remove a screw, weld a little more. I'm sure there is a better way but it worked. LOL
Admitting you are over your head is a great start - honest. There are lots, and lots, and lots of people here at the HAMB who are just waiting to help guys like you. All you have to do is ask.
oh, now I know what you are talking about in your new thread on this ride - do not need to start a new thread each time that you do something or need help
Screws not too far removed from Clecos if you think about it. Best thing about rivets is zipping one off and plug welding the hole, move to another one, repeat. There's more than one or even a dozen ways to get it done! I'm amazed at the welding done by the factory on these cars. Sloppy but they work.
The repairs on drivers side went well—- I think I’m getting this shit. Now I have a few questions. Started cutting out the trunk and removing all the factory tar. I have new metal from EMS, but wondering what to weld to. I’m sure you weld to the fender wells and the metal above the rear end. What about the rear quarter panels on each side? Do you just use seam sealer ? Almost on the clean side of this project—-NOT
Don't quote me but it seems like my 51 had trunk floor extensions that were not welded to the quarters except for the very front and rear. They had a seal of some kind to let water and dirt drain away, but to be honest the car was 60 years old and God knows what previous owners had done to it.
