So I'm getting ready to repaint the interior garnish in my 55 Fairlane, it's been repainted a couple of times before I got the car and it looks pretty awful. After pulling the moldings from around the windows last night, I can't seem to figure how you get the stainless moldings to separate from the garnish without damaging something. Any ideas?

well, to unfasten the clips, you will have to insert something between the two halves (like a very small screwdriver) on the backside. That will in turn push the prongs on the trim side together and allow clip to be pulled through the hole (from the backside) and the trim to be removed.

One word - expect to replace some of the clips, the metal has a tendency to shear at the bend.

Ahh ok. I ran out of time last night to investigate this. Do you remember offhand who sells these clips or what they're called by chance?

Predictably, this quick and easy "replace a piece of weatherstripping and a cracked window" project is *********** quickly.

I hate to say it but I could not find either answer to your questions... I have no idea what they are called, and I could find absolutely no one who had the clips, even Restoration Specialties. No NOS clips out there either. I ended up getting about a dozen extras from some friends who sold them to me pretty cheap - about $5 for the 12. If you find some guys with parts cars they can help you out hopefully.

Totally my luck. Thanks for the effort regardless. If anyone out there has some of these, please let me know...

I've found a lot of things at my local Upholstery supply here in Phoenix they supply just about all the auto upholstery shops in the area and there are a lot of them, contact them and if you have a picture of the old clips maybe you can email it to them. The phone number is (602) 269-6131 H&R Sales the website is sherri@handrsales.com

I got these pulled apart today. Somehow, miraculously it doesn't seem like I broke any of them so I may have dodged a bullet.
