I have an original Mallory dual point distributor for a flathead. It has the vacuum advance brake on the side. It has the 2-piece cap. My question is, does the vacuum brake need ported vacuum from a 94 type carburetor in order to work, or can it run off simple manifold vacuum? I've also heard that you can convert these to full mechanical advance, without using the vacuum brake to slow the advance. What is the best way to run this type of distributor, on an engine with dual 97's, that dont have ported vacuum like the 94's? Thanks

I run my distributors with full mechanical advance and omit the advance brake when using 97's. I would consider mechanical advance if you engine is not 100% stock. They can be converted from vacuum advance with the correct parts. I can help if you are interested in converting. You can email me direct at mmancini@vintageignition.com
