My wife and I are heading to San Antonio and Austin Texas Wed. What are the "can't miss" places I need to visit. We are leaving the kids at home so we are looking forward to some nightlife if you know what I mean. Some ideas on some good clubs and food establishments would be helpful. Thanks

Go to Ritas on the SA Riverwalk and have a $17 margareta. It is the size of a small kitchen sink. Ask for two straws.

In San Antone, have dinner at "Mi Tierra". Best mexican food in the state.

If you burn out on Tex-Mex, go to Threadgill's in Austin

  8. Take a drive (either way) on 360 (Capital of TX Highway) You wont regret it. Best part to start is @ 183 in the north and turn around once you get to 71 and take it back north. Its amazing, gets me everytime

Just about any taqueria in SA has better food than Mi Tierra. I guess it is okay if you don't want to leave the downtown area. They do have pretty good baked goods there, though.

I can't help you with the night life, but I eat a lot. :) I might be able to make some suggestions if you tell me what type of food you like. I'm a cheap bastard, though, so I can't tell you any good expensive places to eat...

I'm just a damn Yankee. Got to see the Riverwalk. If you have wheels, take the tour of the four missions around SA-all different architecture and very interesting details. The Museum in the park near the convention center is really interesting,too-divided to give each of the different religious or nationality groups founding Texas a section. The food is great! Finally, of course, you have to see the Alamo. It's smaller than it looks in the movies, but of course it's really only the mission chapel. The historical explanations are good, if a little biased.

No offense to anyone, but I have never understood why it took about 8000 soldiers of Santa Ana about a week to over-run about 200 "Texans" spread out around a half mile perimeter wall. I mean-lunch,siesta,storm the fort.

Anyway, have a great time,it is truly a wonderful city.

Thanks for the suggestions. WE went to Mi Tierra and found the food was OK. We like dives and Mi Tierra was huge. The Margaritas were the shit though. I bought a new car down here so we are road tripping back to VA for the next week and a half.
