All I have to say is, Burt Munro rocks, he cast his own pistons in sand ???, amazing behind the scenes stuff. Thats what its all about.
    It's a MUST DVD purchase.

Yeah, as cool as the movie is (even my Mom liked it), it doesn't begin to cover what a hardcore dude Burt Munro was. Do yourselves a favor and Google him. Anybody that makes their own barrels from gas pipe and builds an overhead cam setup for their pushrod motor, that works well, is alright in my book.

Check out the more modern day version, there are still folks out there in little sheds making stuff, what Britten did isn't that far removed from Munro only a bit more technology in the planning, on paper/computer rather then out of the skull and try it again if it didn't work.

Popular urban myth in NZ says that Burt cast his first pistons in Watties Baked Bean cans. Then Watties changed the size of their cans and Burt wrote to them and complained.
Hey, thats the story, I heard it about thirty years ago!

Burt Munro is a legend, and the movie was GREAT... even my 10 year old daughter liked it. I dont buy many DVDs, but this is one i'll add as a keeper. Amazing scenery, great performance by Anthony Hopkins and a great storyline to boot.

I got my copy about two months ago, it is a studio promo of the finished product. Only thing I can tell that was different from the theater movie was that mine had a little more in it?
Burt Munro is a ledgend, there is a bigraphy avaliabl about him too. Him and John Britten have got to be two of the worlds greatest motorcycle hot rodders!

So is there extra footage on the DVD such as some history or original photos? Gotta go get two copies, one for a fathers day gift.

I grabbed it on the way home. Since I didn't see it at the theater, I was unsure what to expect. That is one of the coolest stories I have ever seen. The bonus documentary footage on the DVD was worth the price of admission. If you don't have it yet, GET IT!

Yes this really is a great movie. As anyone who has seen it knows, it has been produced so that it appeals to almost anyone. It would have been so easy to have just been a documentary. Or a non believeable dramatised depiction of Burt Munro's increidble life and love of wanting to go fast.
I think this movie will become a classic and is an essential to have a copy in one's DVD collection. I also recommend that it needs to be seen in a cinema at least once, on a full sized screen.
As Doc Watson said there is a biographical book available on Burt Munro and I see it as an almost essential read if you saw an enjoyed the movie. As it details a lot more of the technical aspects of what Burt did to his motorcycles.
The book is titled Burt Munro Indian Legend Of Speed by George Begg, published by Begg and Allen PO Box 8283, Christchurch, New Zealand.
the book's ISBN no 0-473-08906-8 this number will help you track the book down through a book retailer.
I got my copy here in Australia from Wheels Of Time 10 Clow Street Dandenong 3175 Victoria Australia.
Aman very basically the movie is about the life of a New Zealander by the name of Burt Munro whose life revolved around motor cycles and getting them to run as fast as he could get them to go. His most famous is what he achieved with his 1920 Indian Scout. It tells of what he achieved in New Zealand and in the US at Bonneville, as well as the story of his life in general.
There is also a lot of information on Burt on the Idian motorcycle site www.indianmotorcycles.com

Yep, went to about 8 stores and finally found a dvd at one, watched it and loved it. Wanted so bad to go see it when it was in theatres but never seemed to find the time. I'm planing on bringing it to my uncles house and watching it on his tv becuase my little 28'' with little surround speakers wont hold a candle to his massive sound system and huge tv.

I bought a copy today at WallyWorld for $18.32 but was just reminded that Sunday is Fathers Day and since I will be out of town I believe I will give this copy to my Dad tomorrow before I leave for the HRR and will pick me up another copy next week.
