Hope all your weeks are going well so far! Looking for any insight on removing the shifter and shaft off a 1953 steering column. I will be swapping in a 302/AOD setup, and sourced an original '53 Ford-O-Matic steering setup (even came with factory turn signal switch!) to replace my 3-on-tree setup I currently have. I cannot however find any info on the HAMB or in the service manual on how to seperate the shifter shaft from the steering column, as the original column to the car is in much better shape than the auto column. Hope to be enlightened shortly, thanks!
I actually cut mine and was able to pull it away from both ends. I’m sure there is a much less aggressive way though
1952-53 Ford Steering Diagram by danman55 posted Jul 15, 2019 at 8:19 AM Here is a start for you with the digram, but the small hardware like screws and pins are not shown. You will need to drive out the small cold rolled pin that is keeping your shift lever in the boss of the shift shaft, at the top of the "L" if that makes any sense. The pin will drive right out with a small punch. It is probably going to be very close to this work here on my 55... https://www.hotrodreverend.com/single-post/2017/09/21/55-Ford-Fairlane-Restoration-Blog-Part-11 there is quite a bit on the blog on my website, and if you look at the tag words in the column to the right you can do your own search for blog posts. enjoy.
