Technical rear radius rod swap?

    just swapped out my ford rear end 42-48 for a 37- 41 ,it seems the 37- 41 is 1.5 " narrower ( backing plate flange to flange ,so the rods are touching ( "with tension" lucky I got them mounted) , since i have to shorten my drive shaft ( hot rod ) ,I need to retain these shorter rods .
    So would it be OK for some heat and bending to get space for D/S mount ?

    P/S I am not that familiar with early Ford part dimensions, and years ,my dates and meas. above are only what I can get from books. thk/u. gus. MVC-001S.JPG

    It won't require very much heat at the rear to get the spread at the front you need. You might need to tweak the angle at the front tabs as well. Those old Ford parts are forged, and heating them is not a problem.

    Thanks Marty. everything heated up in good shape ,thought it would be OK , just making sure , old age you know !!!
