That would be an oxy*****! Just doing research here. I'll be needing to have the '54's front and rear bumpers chromed. I know the chroming process isn't cheap but everything in California is always so much more.
Prices per bumper at a local chrome shop:
    $300 - nickel/chrome
    $440 - copper/nickel/chrome
    $855 - show chrome
Now, this ain't no show car. Just a clean, functional, dependable ride. My bumpers have no dents or dings but there is some rust. Pitting rust. I was leaning towards the mid priced unit. But, $900 to make two pieces of steel look shiny? Would it be worth it to travel 200 miles to Nevada? Any idea of pricing outside of California? I just drove to Reno last week to buy paint for my truck. Primer, color and clear cost me $200. Same stuff here in Cali...….north of $800!

It's expensive all over from what I can tell. 440. sounds about right for good but non show quality.
Don't ya just know the low rider clans have mobile clandestine plating shops hidden away in the desert hills somewhere. I ask them around here where they get there plating done, and they just smile and say "I have friends"

Anybody used spectra chrome. I dont see it being as durable a real chrome plating but might be an option for some... https://spectrachrome.com

There is always the option of "chrome" powder coat. It doesn't look like chrome but more of a polished aluminium look and is more durable than paint. Just an idea.

I've seen inexpensive chrome on bumpers, it's peeling in less than a few years.. Bumper Boyz comes to mind.

Tri-City Plating in Elizabethan, Tennessee did my bumpers in 2010, well actually I traded them my bent up bumpers for 2 they replated and they gave me 100 bucks for my cores and I had nice bumpers for 800.00 dollars, they look as good today as they did when I bought them. HRP

Well, it sounds like $440 each is about the going rate. I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet. It's kinda frustrating 'cause pricing out a lot of the parts I'll need I'm finding everything is rather expensive. I built my roadster for $4800 but I made virtually everything from scratch. Guess I just got spoiled!

The reason why chrome has gotten so expensive is the cost of staying in business, the EPA has made it difficult for businesses like that who work with what they consider hazardous waste.

That's the main reason I haven't platted the bumpers on my '50, I just can't afford it right now. HRP

The previous owner blacked out the bumpers on my Vic rather than redoing the chrome. I have probably gotten more comments on that (both good and curious) than anything else.
