I have a 55 Pontiac Chieftain with the original 287. My fuel pump is starting to go out (will only start when I pour gas into the carb then it runs fine), will any Pontiac v8 fuel pump work or only one made for the 287?

  5. Any Pontiac V/8 fuel pump will bolt up with no problem. I used a 68 GTO pump on my 57 Pontiac engine

  6. Yes almost any year will bolt on. But does it have the vacuum for the wipers deal on yours?
Are you implying that you can't find one for a 55 /287 ?
I wouldn't think you would want to cobble up the lines and hoses if it's an original car.

With today's crap pumps, you'll become an expert in no time.

  8. So you find a original 55 fuel pump. and its might not hold up with todays crappy ethanol corn gas mix.

Doesn't really sound like a pump problem. Carb should still have gas in it if it was running.

^^^^^ Have to keep the carburetor wet at all times or one will loose accelerator pump.
