Krooser, Squablow, Talltom and others have wanted to see some pics. Was waiting to get the windshield in. Hasn't happened yet. Everything takes longer than planned, so here they are. 54chop
No, it's always been a 2dr. When I chopped it, I rolled the back window down 3.5" and fit he roof to it instead of moving it all the way forward to the A pillar.(quartered the roof) 54chop
The only gl*** that needed to be cut is the windshield. I made a template of the opening and had Rockford Auto Gl*** cut it. Just need to finish sanding the top edge and install it. 54chop
Hey, Thasa killer lookin chop! 52s, 3s & 4s are tough to get the line and flow of the roof, without that sat on look. S****ey Devils C.C.
Looks real good. First car I ever chopped was a '53 Ford two door sedan, still got it. Mine didn't turn out quite as nice as yours did, but I still get compliments.
Probably worked with hammer and dolly for a week to get the crown right. Next time it won't take nearly as long. Started to mig it together, but that creates hard spots I discovered. Finished welding the top and did the back window(from 53 chev sedan) with oxy-acetylene. That hammered out much better. 54chop
Looks the same from the right side, just didn't want to fill up the post with too many pictures. Squablow, be happy to do the roof for you on your 53(for trade or cash). You always seem to have a lot of interesting iron. 54chop
nice chop do you have any close up pictures my buddy is thnking about chopping his it would be a great help jake
*sigh* mine could use a lil off the top... projects, money and time. got plenty of the first one, little of the second and almost none of the third
"What's it look like when you chop a 53/54 210/BelAir and leave the back gl***?" That answers that question.
Time to post an update. Windshield is fitted and in. I think I know why there are so many chopped projects for sale w/o gl*** cut or installed. Got the rest of the car painted. Waiting for paint to cure before putting on the stainless trim. Have yet to put the 3" lowering springs in, definately needs 'em. Comments welcome. Later, 54chop
So, are thinking it's because of the ride hieght, because I have never seen a chopped checker cab. Or is it something else? 54chop
Can you explain this in more detail, or do you have pictures? I don't get what you did here. It looks good, about as chopped as my '53 is, but you have a shorter quarter window. Did you move the rear window further forward? I'd like to know so when I go over my '53 the next time (did the chop 10 years ago, I was young and inexperienced) I can make some changes.
The 1/4 window is the stock one that was never removed when I did the chop. I did however duct tape it just to keep from getting any damage. I rolled it down 3.5 inches and moved the top forward(and down) just enough to close up the gap. Then I had to cut across the roof(left to right) to move the front half of the roof the rest of the way to the "A" pillar. At the time I thought moving the roof forward without cutting across the roof would make the 1/4 windows look too small, but looking at Seymour's car(green 54 business coupe I believe) I don't think this is true. The proportions on his ford's 1/4 gl*** looks good. 54chop
So the rear of the roof actually came forward? That was what I was wondering. My car is chopped about the same amount but my rear windows look longer (which I don't like, I like yours better). Did you have to add any length to the roof when it was cut, or did moving the roof forward eliminate any need to do that?
I did have to add some length to the middle of the roof to get it to reach the "A" pillar. About 1 1/2". 54chop
Forgot the picture. You can see where the roof was extended. Should have added to the roof further forward. You can see by adding 1 1/2" right in the middle of the roof I lost some crown and caused much more hammer and dolly work. 54chop
The guys at Rockford Auto gl*** told me they cut it 3/4" at a time. I think that works out to 5 or 6 times. 54chop
