As I understand it, the Prefect was the 4-door version whereas the Anglia had 2 doors. Are you buying the white one ?
four door english fords were prefects; 2-door english fords were anglias; panel truck english fords were thames. here's one that belongs to a friend: ****! files are too large to post. maybe i'll figure out how to shrink them.
I believe English ones had 2 or 3 grill holes & American ones had the opposite... narrower than American counterparts.
You put in a big V8 into the Prefect 4 doors and then climb into the back seat to drive it....I saw one at Kazoo like that a few years back. Basically they're a tiny weenie car for the English market..mechanical brakes, little weirdo 4 banger flathead engine...a scaled down 37 Ford ch***is....they're basically all about the same until 1957..they were cheap to buy and make into a drag racing car due to the rules that were in place years ago. If you can build a Model A, you can build a Prefect or an Anglia/Thames... Dad used to point out the English Fords to me when I was a kid, he felt they were about the same as our Model A's were...cheap transportation and easy to keep on the road.
Hey, English Ford prefect (A53A) built from 1946-1948 English Ford Prefect (A493A) built from 1949-1953 English Ford Anglia (E49A) built from 1948-1953 this is the two-door saloon In 1953 the Anglia (E49A) became the Ford Popular (103E), basicly a dechromed Anglia with the 10 H.P. motor from the discontinued Ford Prefect * the two-hole grille shell started in '48 and carried thru to '59 on the last of the Populars, The Three -hole grille shell was a carryover from the pre-war Ford Model 7W "Ten" 4-door saloon, and was used on some post war cars and commercials. The prefect / anglia topic, i just love it. a good site to check out is angliaobsolete.com very useful if you are researching a particular style and shape. I own 3 anglias at present . 1/ 46 coupe handbuilt the factory did not produce one.....2/ 46 Anglia panel van with a 3" chop and a 3/ 45 anglia 2 door tourer. if the car you are looking at is a stocker...be very careful when driving as they had a bad habit of falling over (near , on or after a corner). There is a very nice restored prefect for sale just 5 houses from my place for AUS $2700. as far as differences go the Anglia has a shorter wheel base than the Prefect by 2", that was a major contributing factor during the ' g***er years' as the NHRA asked for a minimum wheelbase and the Anglia got bumped in favour of the prefect. I will check out my ch***is specs in my shed tomorrow and repost with the differences. good luck with the hunt regards aussie bob
