Does my new E-Gay air cleaner look GAY?

This is an old post resurrected from a new post response.

Bought this new '57 Ford cap off of E-Gay and used it for the top of an Eldebrock 10" air cleaner base and filter. I know it's in a Merc but does it look GAY?

 

only because it's on a Merc... pretty cool otherwise

 

I think it look okay, but I might be a bit biased... Olds wheelcover on my Chevy....

 

Looks cool, but do you get enough air for that huffer?

At least it is an original idea. I LOVE that blown flatty too!

i have often thought about the same idea when walking through swap meets, i always see hubcaps that could be made into air cleaners, nice to see others do the same.

You're absolutly right but then I'd have to punch a hole in my beautiful louvered hood for clearance. Rather not do that as I like the "sleeper" look now.

 

not feeling the vibe with it. just does not seem to fit the look. I say something else.. like cutting up an old oilbath aircleaner and using the top section maybe.. ???

I think its the white that I do not car for, makes it stand out to much compared to the rest of the motor..(do you really want it to be the focal point)

 

Maybe if I used the blue duplicolor I have to match the block & outside of the car it would help it. Ya' think? Or better yet take the laquer thinner to the top and eliminate the white altogether?

 

The motor is way to cool for the hub cap. Make a clock out of the hub cap or better yet just send me the motor and I'll make the clock!

 

You think it has enough power to turn the hands on that clock?

 

Not gay, but maybe curious..... The engine underneath is all man though...

If by "gay" you mean "underendowed", then, yes, it's gay.

It's too small for all that motor and supercharger and big carb. I'd get something larger that extended over the carb bowls, and take the yellow logo off the huffer. The hubcap is a cool idea, but put it on a 2BBl hanging off the side of an in-line engine.

 

That motor is outstanding the air cleaner no!

I agree with the earlier post about it not being large enough, with that engine you need something a little...er.....bigger

No doubt it does but like I said send me the motor and I'll make the clock and even do a power test on the flatty for you. I can even send you my mostly stock 59a in trade if that helps. A couple of strombergs on top would solve the air cleaner problem. Blown Flatties Rule! (I wish I had one.)

 

Find something big and bulky enough to hide the carb, but not obscure the blower and you will be aces.

I like it, but you could add a little more grunt to it with a more aggressive looking topper (skull, flyin' eye, etc.) instead of the 3 point plastic wingnut.

 

I agree, looks kinda small and the white realy takes your eyes away from an awesome motor. I'd look into Cal Custom or a Moon finned air cleaner??
But hell, its your car do what ya want.
