Anybody but me own a couple cars and don't have any of them running? It's summer and i don't have a car, just my daily driver. Guess i wasted my winter.
I've got one old car roadable, and a few that drive but need little stuff, but I know the feeling. I've got too many projects and not enough drivers right now. I don't see any more of my stuff hitting the road anytime soon either.
I'm trying to make room in the garage but I can't even GIVE AWAY this 235 I6!!! (hint hint - shameless hint). I've divested myself of a lot of stuff lately to raise a little cash to get working on something. But the real estate tax bill came in the mail the other day. Geez, I hate when reality kicks my fantasies in the stones... I'm shooting to have the mighty Rambler on the road for the Hunnert Car Pile-Up in October. New interior and scallops over patina w/ a flaked roof. We'll see how all that shakes out. Donations gladly accepted. (Yes, I am shameless..)
i finally put my daily driver back together today. It has only been apart though for like 3 days. My bel-air... well someday i will get it done. Not too soon though becouse then i would have to let my wife park in the garage again.
dont feel bad man I've been owning my 48 plymouth for 5 years man and still have'nt done a fucking thing to it pisses me off every time I think about it
I am running out of space, the problem is I get a car, say I am goingto drive it just the way it is. Then i start to do something small, and bam! next thing you know, it has no front clip, motor, trans or rearend. so then I get another driver and Bam same shit all over again.I never finish anything.I had a motor built for my 46 coupe in 98, guess what, it is still on the same stand.
I'll guess you mess with one, get bored and go to another (automotive leap frog). You can either, ONE-pick the one close to completion and focus on "IT" til it's done. Or TWO- pick the one that's close to done, sell the rest (because you have trouble getting focused) and finish the one without distractions. I know a lot of guys that have a shitload of non-running cars, but are consumed with jumping from one to another as if there's a penalty for finishing something. Probably NOT the response you were looking for, but hey, you put it out there.
You are your own worst enemy. Sell off some of that junk and concentrate on one or two projects. One day, you'll wonder where your life went and why you're sitting in the nursing home lamenting why you never drove any of the hulks you owned. Get to it!
I'm right there with you. 3 old cars, all with out motors in them. BTT50s is next Friday, but I'll make it. Putting together A 454 for the 52 Buick, should be fun. junkyard
I sold tfour so that I can concentrate on my 36 Truck and kept another in the wings. I have made a commitment to myself that I ain't buying another car until the truck runs, it's working so far.
i have many more cars that dont run compaired to cars that do run. somehow 5 of the 6 bikes arent running this year either.
be nice to see one done, but i get bored with them then, i like the design and creation stage, and after that i am bored or fed up something else broke. keeping my fingers crossed the 55 sees daylight this year again and the 57 see paint and interior someday. i do that leap frog, otherwise i lose interest, patience, or run out of parts..
2 cars, one bike not running - only the daily. Actually, the bike runs great, it doesn't charge - I'm not generator-savvy, but I'm learning and getting really fast at taking it apart and putting it back together. I can ride it for however long the battery lasts. I'm about to rip out ever square inch of wiring and start over...
sell A Few ... A few years ago I had the same problem ... lots of pretty good stuff but nothing ran ... A older guy came with his son to look at some parts I had and he told me ... pick out the ONE you REALLY like and sell the rest ... After a week or so ... I got to thinking about it and sold almost everything off but the 32 Ford Roadster ... SOLD OFF ... 56 F-100 Big Window 49 Mercury coupe 55 Chevrolet Cameo a couple 1 st generation Camaros Over 75 Factory aluminum GM intakes a few 454 450 HP engines a pair of 69 Z28 engines a Ton of other items ... For once in my life ... I had a REAL pocketfull of money $$$ and a clean shop to work in ... Within 1 year, I had my 32 Ford on the road ... painted, upholstered and FINISHED ... Try it ... worked for me ...
My dad is driving me crazy with this shit. He's got half a dozen cars. Some run and all are close to road worthy. I can't keep he focused long enough to not buy the next one. He bought a 62 caddy home yesterday. I have done this many times myself with bikes and cars. I am trying to stop so I can enjoy the car while driving it even though I love wrenching. I think it's pretty common among us. Rod
So the fact that I too have five projects in bare metal ('28 RPU, '31 vicky, '32 3w, '33 cabrio, '52 chopped chev) and nothing to drive puts me in this same category. I prefer to think of it as Adult Car- Related Attention Deficit. If selling cars is the cure I may suffer from it for a time longer.
amature's the whole lot of you!! I on the other hand am a true professional procrastonator, and car whoarder!
That "sell most of it off" stuff makes it sound like that's real easy to do. In the time it takes to sell off a bunch of stuff, I could get a couple cars finished and roadable. Plus, seems like I have no problem finding good deals to buy, but when I want to sell something, no one is looking. I'd get bored pretty fast if I only had one car laying around, finished or not. I do have one that's fully roadworthy right now, so I'm pretty happy with that, and the other 20 cars will have to wait their turn.
I feel your pain! Ive been building mine, buying one piece at a time for years. Ive thought about selling it all and getting rid of everything a thousand times but then i see a pic of somone here driving theres and remember why i'm doing it, its a sickness!
Gotta stay focused. I at one time had many projects, one being a car, one a bike, one a three wheeler, a boat, a garage, need I go on. I finished the garage, and started on the car. I didn't work on anythine else until the car is (almost) done. Now it's a driving car, still needs a bunch of work but at least I can enjoy it. If you think planning and building is fun, wait till you drive something you built. 10x better! Once this car is further on towards finished then I'll start on the next project (yet another 51!). But I won't buy anything else, not fair to what I already have.
Oh so fuggin guilty, deeply fecked off and looking for inspiration right now....... Oh hang on, there,s beer in the fridge.
Guilty too!! I bought a couple of running cars last year to have a running car. Still have all of the project cars too. Now I'll have to figure out what to do with everything.
Also guilty, Got a 55 Chevy 2 door post for free - It was in a fire. I have a 66 mustang fastback at a friends shop that he wants out yesterday. I cut out the rear floor and was going the whole pro tourning route when I got into a 31 coupe. They all don't run! The worst part is that i live in a town house and don't have a garage. The town assosiation gave me a few warnings about the 55. My 31 coupe is in my brothers garage. And they all aren't even close to running!! rustfarmer
