Everardo Gómez 1 h The next step in the construction of my car is to put thunderbird seats, some of you who have done it can tell me what modifications have to be done to put the back seat
Everardo, have u installed the back seat yet?? I have the same seats and have found nothing on how to install them. If u can post how you did it that would be great.
Back seats usually the bottom kind of clips into place, the top can be bolted or also fit on clips. To get that seat to work you'll need to narrow through the middle or eliminate that metal panel. I had the same issue getting it into a Chevy fastback, too wide at the top of the seat.
For the back seat- bottom..... I took out the rear armrest portion , and widend the frame 3'' on each side so the seat would fit flush against the panel(MERC BOTTOM). I used the T Bird wraps for the tops...
I saw your original post on this, looks great. Love that you added the speakers to the tray. How are the tops of the wrap around seat backs attached? Do you use the T-Bird hangers that are welded on the deck support? And the bottom tabs of the seat backs screwed in with taps? Bolts? Thank you for the help. For as many people that have added these seats, there is very little information on installing.
I think- because it's been a while, and i'de have to look at the car up close= I used the "lip" from the factory package tray, and drilled a hole to match the "Bird brackets on the rear's.....Then the back's were supported...... Thinking this is using the factory Bird mounting tab(s)...... It was just drilling a hole with one bolt, but rock solid, and worked out...... The tray I had to extend somewhat...... Might as well get into that now to help peep's out...... So- with the "Bird seat deal, tray install........ When all was mocked up, the tray(Bird) was about 2'' above the factory tray(Merc). I had to have tune's.... So- instead of drilling and hogging out the factory tray, the speakers sit just on top of it, and are serviceable through the top.... Make sense? One thing I did do though, was have the wrap around trim altered to fit the profile of the rear 1/4 window, which make's or breaks things easily.... Just my OP. Didn't see any other way...... I guess I'll let the pics explain.... If any a Q, shoot a PM, and i'll try to explain.......
Thanks all of you for your coments, I had left this post forgotten as well as the adjustment of the seats to my Mercury, I will take it back again and I will try to make a side-by-side support with wire rod, putting some clips to hold the backs. Thanks Invisiblekid, yesterday I saw another post in which you show how you adapted the tray, it was very useful
I also found a pots of a paisano of mine "Pacorro" in which he shows the restoration of his Mercury, go check it out, it's very interesting. he commented that he wanted to see some pictures of my Mercury, and here I will put some
WOW! What a good job to do in that merc. It has an unquestionable correct style and the top chop looks amazing. I had to decide that step (top chop) and let it p***, I'm happy as my project goes. Congratulations on your car and hopefully we can roll together soon
Still haven't got to the back seat yet, looking for photos on where and how the bottom mounts of the seat backs will attach to the body. Also what mods are needs to attach the seat bottom to the floor.
Finally I adapted the backrest of the back seat, I wanted to make a wire harness with hooks to stop them, but I saw that the hooks were getting in the way of putting the original backrest and I removed them, when I removed them I realized that I could use them to stop the backrests by changing them of position and so I did it and they were already installed. Mr.Chevrolet, yes, fortunately I have the sides
Finally!!!!!!! I decided enough was enough, I got my back seat mounted. I need to trim the package tray, but since my window garnishes aren't chopped yet, I'll have to wait. Sent from my SM-A102U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
