did a search and found the info for a molded lower radiator hose in a 40 ford with a small block chevy motor, but didnt find anything about the upper. anyone have a part number for a molded hose that will work on the top ? rather find a molded hose then run a ugly flex hose

looks like a pretty straight forward hose to me. take a coat hanger bent up to the shape you need and spend an hour in the parts shop looking through hoses

I'm using a LH outlet t-stat housing with most of an upper hose from a 73-87 Chevy Pickup (I think). I forget what the lower is.

  5. What part # did you use for the lower one. I think I used one for a 57 Chev. Maybe there is a better one out there.

I travel for work, but the hose part number is plain as day on my car when I get home I will get it for you. And a photo if you like.

  7. Would be great for all the 40 Ford owners. What fan are you using? A few years back, Mr 40s Fat Stuff used to offer a crank mounted fan adaptor for 40s, covered in the Sep 90 issue of Street Rodder, page 58, the supplier went out of business so he doesnt carry it anymore, any one know of a source for this type adaptor? Same issue has a lot good stuff for 40s.

  8. what upper hose to use depends on your water neck. if you are using a stock chevy type that angles to the left(drivers) side...try Napa 7209

the lower hose try Napa # 8685

I recall those adapters.. but I fear that would put my fan into the ground!

all kdding aside.. I use 20.00 flex (alum) fans from swap meets.. usually with no spacer or 1/2 inch spacer..

  10. When I put the 331 Caddy in my 40 coupe, I used the Hurst adaptors with Ford flathead "biscuts", it put the center line of the crank in the right position that the crankhole in the radiator lined up perfect. Got on my lathe and fabricated an alum adaptor that bolted to the 6 bolt Cad harmonic bal (countersunk holes) and drilled the 4 holes for the orig Ford flathead fan and bolted it in place, still there today with no problems. Thats about the samething that the Mr 40s adaptor did except used an after market small dia fan. Will probably due the same thing with the Wife's 40 as the aftermarket alum water pump fan is so small and doesn't cover all of the core (too high) that it heats up if not careful and its a brand new $600 4 core copper radiator using a Stewart WP and a Shaw 160 thermostat. The upper rad hose connection is on the left side but not far enough to to left to use a larger fan. Poor design of the rad. I was hopeful to find one of the Mr 40s adaptors but no luck. Im surprised that no one else makes them, sure a lot of 40s out there with SBCs. Another thing I need to do is reinstall the lower air/splash shield on it to help direct the air thru the rad instead of under it. One of the down sides to the crank mounted fan is my 40 is so low in front that it creates a tornado under the front and blows dust/dirt everywhere, LOL but then again we aren't supposed to driving off the road in the dirt are we??? HaHaHa!! Dave

  11. Try using a Murray part number 85160 thermostat housing and a NAPA part number 8602 molded hose. I used a NAPA 7849 hose for the lower one. I had to trim about 3 inches off the end of the hoses that attach to the radiator.

I installed the 8685 lower hose last night and it worked like a champ. I'm having additional challenges on the upper due to the high mounted alt on the driver's side Alan Grove Bkt (& prep'd for AC on the Pass side) So I'm forced to go with the center fed thermostat housing.

hear that. I went with low mount alternator cause I've seen it used in the past and I like the clearance with it. Also not into AC except for 2/80 a.c.
two windows open at 80.:D:D A.C. steals horsepower.

  16. Anyone know what lower hose might be close? I'm running SBC in my '40 with a '55 Chevy radiator with outlet on lower right. Running a flex hose now cause it's a very tight turn, but would much rather use a stock # molded hose. Many thanks, Don.

To the guy with the 1940 ford w/ SBC drivers side alternator, try N.A.P.A.
#8154 upper radiator hose. For the lower radiator hose, try Gates #21505 or Gates# 42611505. You will have to trim both of them, but they fit. Good luck.

I recently installed a Gates #20606 that fits a 1967-68 upper Chevy Camero with air, in my 1939 Ford, Chevy 350 motor, Walker radiator coupe. I was having an interference problem with the tensioner for my alternator and air and needed a hose to go under, not over, the top of the tensioner. The upper hose was 19 inches, I needed 14 inches, so I had to trim a little of the top and a lot off the bottom, but if fits like it was made to go there with no interference.

1941 ford pick up with a 283 Chevy, walker radiator, straight axle. I cannot for the life of me get the right lower hose for my application.
The most recent one I have tried is a gates 21505 it is close but Rubs on the lower section as it leaves the radiator. I have it wrapped around the fender cross support , not sure I am likening the positioning.
I tried a Napa #8625 close but to short
Napa 7286 is also a no go
I tried lowering the radiator a bit to get better clearance it seems to help a bit but still not happy.
    Anyone have some recommendations?
