Wrapping up a mechanical rebuild on my 41. It was running fine, but had an opportunity to get a Flathead from Keith Tardell. After I got the engine I didn’t want to put it into a ratty engine bay, then thought I’d better redo the transmission, which has now expanded to a full mechanical rebuild. it’s 100% new mechanically and will be a very nice light duty hauler.

This truck has absolutely no rust due to moisture. Even the original hardware is clean and comes off easily without having to use penetrating oil.

I found my passenger inner fender rusted due to leaking a battery and it had been poorly repaired with brazing. I also replaced it while I had it all apart. All other panels are original to the truck.

Last step is the rebuild of the original Columbia - which is underway. Looking forward to getting this back on the road. .

LOve these 40's but never owned one.
What do most of these guys use for front ends?? Crown Vic...Mustang II...or do most of them use the old straight axle?
I like the ones with a low radiator alot more than the tall one sticking up. Just looks right-er(dat-a-word?)
Mag wheels just don't look right on'em either! Painted rims..maybe wider painted rims with a small moon or just open.

I have a stock axle in my '40 truck. Crown Vic's are WAY too wide. Lots of street rod guys use Mustang II on them.

 

Stock axle also.

 

Dropped stock axle in mine.

Late 19th Century railroad bridge repurposed as automobile bridge.

 

Just finished this one up after a total rebuild because of the bad work underneath. Just got it painted a month ago and the upholstery just got done the other day.
