Kustoms are about looks, not performance. Right?

I have a 50 Shoebox kustom that I've been doing a ton of mechanical work to. When I told a friend I put a traction-loc Ford 9" in my car he said "Why? You don't need it." Because I'm looking to put about 400 whitewall smoking HP under the hood, that's why. Even though I know the car needs body work and paint in the future, and is a few inches off the ground I'm always thinking about making the car haul ass.

Who on the HAMB doesn't follow the Low and Slow rule for their Kustom?

Tell us about your HOT ROD slabs with sick power, that you USE. Pictures please!

Doing a "kustom" or lowrider that like looks real nice but runs like shit is kinda like wearing a gold chain. It's all about the looks, yet has no function aside from looking good. I don't think everyone needs to spend the money to haul ass & be the fastest, but I think it's important to run decent before you dress up and show off.

That said--- yeah, kustoms need a little performance love too!

EDIT POINT: By the way, I intend to eventually have major performance under the hood of the '49 Ford I just acquired from PorkChop. My intent is to smoke every one of your asses at next years HAMB drags.

The Loco Greeengo is not the fastest but it did run 14.10 @ 99.6 in the 1/4 on firestone 6.70-15 with a peg leg. Not bad for a 3k pound car labeled as a sled.oh yeah 20 mpg with a single four barrel.

    You mean this one?

  10. I've got a warmed up .030 over 455 Olds in my 55 Cad. It would have been much cheaper and easier to put a belly button 350/350 combo, but a beast that heavy needs torque too

Well I'm buildin my truck as a custom. I know I could slap a BBC together and back it with a mild 400 and 2500 stall, 'bout a 3.55 gear and that fucker would kick major ass on the highway and between lights. But guess what. They didn't have big blocks in the real early days. It has a decent 305 in it that with a lil help, the right components, and a smooth tri-power get up, it should do very well for itself and serve me up some decent mpg for that 30mi one way drive to work. I for one have had enough of fire-breathin gas fumin loud assed lifter clatterin hot rods. I wanna relax and enjoy the drive. I want it to handle superior to it's former self. I want it to look good doin it. Ok so maybe it'll top out at well over 120 when I get it done. Would that count? Do I get any props for that? That reminds me of a new topic that I'ma post afta this.

Cheater slicks will look GREAT on supremes. My shoe box rag top is running a
stock boss 351. This winter I plan to warm it over. It's backed by a c6 and a
posi rear with 411's. I plan to look good and let her eat when I get the urge.
I knew when I built it I would not be happy with the flattie for power. My lone regret is that I didn't stash the flattie for a future project. It now powers a 50 ford pick up.

If Feder's is the one I'm thinking of I was really surprised how fast it was running.

definitly not the fastest, but I've got a 383 with T56 in my 54 4door. The motor dyno'd 497 HP / 470 ftlbs naturally and 604 HP / 640 ft.Lbs with a 150 shot. bottom end could handle at least a 250 shot, but I didn't feel like pushing it.:D Should be tearing up the streets of So Cal soon...

T56 as in a Turbo? Id like to see some pictures that non traditional ass kicking induction. some of my friends run pretty close to 4 digit hp numbers (at the wheels )with turbo late model mustangs with SBF's , 150 mph 1/4 mile speeds are pretty impressive.

Well, my 51 is not really a "custom", actually I dont know what you would call it; maybe a "sleeper".

    Anyway, while it looks fairly stock'ish, Im running a 454 with a B.W. ST-10 4-speed and a 3.73 posi rear diff.
