Paint detailing....orange block/heads,black crinkle valve covers, timing cover, oil pan, If cast iron intake, can be painted aluminum to contrast. Cheap, doesn't show oil leaks (black crinkle)

Love, love, love 409's. Color unimportant.

  6. Red or Orange, I am not a purist, but either colour looks really fine on an engine.
Although it is not my personal favourite colour on an engine, In 1957, Chevy did furnish the 265 engine option with a yellow block and black trim.

Next to the 63-65 FI motors (IMHO) the 409 was the most beautiful motor that GM built. Please use the stock valve covers on it. Neatest valve covers ever were the stock painted ones. D

  10. All 348s and 409s are precious and should be painted the appropriate color. I’m a traditionalist, Chevrolet’s are always orange and Fords are always blue.

based on the car and colour, Ford Washington Blue would look great.

I have a couple of W's that are orange and 1 that is black.

Gun metal grey is a nice compromise. Looks good if you are going to run an aluminum intake as well. That’s what I did for the 383 in my Camaro. This is the colour I went with for my 409 in my coupe.

I'm thinking, an industrial looking medium grey. Would look real 'business' like with the body color.

409's are one of a kind and should be painted orange, and always include the proper factory aircleaner whatever the HP rating and also the same goes for the valve covers, can't find a better looking combination on the planet, Ralphie
