i tried the search but nothing usefull found And I'm sure this is a common thing? So what's the most economical adaapt and over come junkyard swap way to get disc brakes on a 42-47 ford 1/2 ton or off the shelf kits I guess also heard sometbing about windstar front ends ?? Sorry if this is the wrong area to ask admin feel Free to re locate .
I used this kit on my '46 pickup...works like a champ. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Disc...-to-Early-Ford-Spindle-5-on-4-1-2In,4575.html I went with the 5 x 4-1/2 to match the 8.8 rear, but other patterns are available I beleive.
https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Complete-Disc-Brake-Kit-1937-48-Ford-5-on-5-1-2-BC,1997.html This is the kit I went with on my 41 Tudor. It fits the 1/2 ton also. What is nice about this is it keeps the stock 5 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern and all the parts are off the shelf. It uses early F150 rotors, GM calipers and pads. And the bearings and seals are easy to get too. The only thing bad about this kit is you can't use it with the bolt on steering arms. So if you have a dropped axle, you will have to use stock spindles with the arm bent to clear.
Thanks guys are any of those parts junk yard available or rock auto etc and just buy the brackets? I realize it's cheap but it soon gets out of hand so saving here and there also ads up While on the subject what master cyl are you using? thanks again
you can buy just the adapter brackets from speedway and they tell you which vehicles the rotors and calipers come from. All common parts that you can get from any auto parts store.
Heres the bracket kit only for the kit I mentioned. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Basi...s-5-on-5-1-2,7677.html?OriginalQuery=91631909
You can sometimes find the kits in the Speedway "garage sale" pretty cheap cuz they're returned and may be missing a bolt or 2. Sent from my SM-G965U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Garage sale on this.... https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Disc...er-to-Early-Ford-Spindle-5on4-1-2,396219.html
Some times the kit is cheaper in the long run. By the time you get all the little parts and run around searching junkyards for parts it adds up to more. Plus the junkyard parts will need to be rebuilt and the kits have all new or rebuilt parts.
Master cylinder will depend on what brakes will be used. The steering box is completely rebuildable. I rebuilt mine using parts from Mac's.
Unfortunately my steering box is completely missing. Brakes will be a disc kit for front and prob drums rear and was hoping to be able to find brakes on something factory to use easily found at the jy or parts store ? Steering same deal I Do have the coloumn but want a collapsible type Easily wired to basic aftermarket harness
Ok my friend called thinks He's found the steering box and coloumn is there a way to seperate the coloumn from the box on these and ad a rag joint or collapsible coloumn?
Yes, you'll have to cut through the column, leaving shaft stubs on each end, then install bearings or bushings in the tube ends to support the shafts.
The Speedway kits seems reasonably priced. The sum of the parts all the parts purchased separately like the brackets, rotors, calipers, pads., bearings plus all the misc. parts will likely be higher than the kit. Speedway have $20 off on orders over $250.
