I know it's not a hot rod or custom but I thought you guys might enjoy some pictures of a really neat bike that is being built by Christian Dotson. Christian was one of the major players on the Design and build of Royce Gladders '29 Ford RPU for Pinkees rod shop. Since the completion of the "Loaded" pick-up Christian has moved to Santa Rosa CA and divides his time between starting Dotson Design which includes the build up of this bike and conceptual design work as well as a day job as a fabricator at Creative Concepts. If you got to see the build book that was on display with "Loaded" at Detriot or some of the drawings published in the Rodders Journal then you have seen what Christian can do on paper. He is an equally good fabricator. I know most people will be skeptical if the bike is actually functional but it was built to ride.
Keep a look out for it making its' bare metal debut at the AMD World Championship bike show in Sturgis this year.

Don't worry, Sigourney Weaver will kill it in the next sequel.
    :D

    I don't hate it.
I just think it needs to have some balance beween the front wheel distance and rear wheel distance from the "bulk" of the motor area.
That would be for visual balance and handling balance since those long fronts tend to plow on turns.
Also, to keep it all unique, maybe it should have an alternative drive system, maybe a flexible drive shaft like a first generation Pontiac Tempest.
A really serious size speedometer cable in a housing affair coiling back to a similarly suspended rear wheel.

It would be right at home here! http://www.robot-models.com/

... there are quite a few forkless bikes going way back. There have been a couple that have been produced in the last 15 years or so the Yamaha RADD and a couple Bimotas and BMW's come to mind. Not really my thing btu nice work nonetheless..

  8. I'm not one to post unless truly inspired or provoked so here goes. I'm going to go against the grain here. I think this bike is cool, if for no other reason than a good fabricator is pushing the boundaries of design and physics. If people never tried anything different, what kind of cars would we be driving........32 fords????? I guess that wouldn't be so bad though.....:D

  9. Well I guess I'm in the minority(let that read,"on the bald-headed end of the broom)again, but I like it. I don't think it looks any more ridiculous than an old rigid framed Harley with a 7 foot long springer front end that doesn't spring anymore but flexes like a son of a ***** and falls over every time you let go of the bars.I guess it needs some red wheels and wide whites.:D

  10. You've got to hand it to him for being different and interesting.

The design doesn't quite flow for me. In some ways it reminds my of many of Ford's committee cars from the mid-late 70s. It's not quite focused on an overall theme.

Don't get me wrong, some of the details are awesome and well-fabricated, but the whole thing just doesn't flow for me.

And if I were a MC guy that post-suicide front end wouldn't give me any confidence.

as an engineering exercise, it's interesting. as far as design...ugly. something needs to be taking up the space that would normally be occupied by forks, the design has no flow. maybe if he made it a foot and a half shorter it might look ok.

  12. Best call of the week DR! Had me in s***ches!

  13. I wanna drive it.........!!!

  14. Well I prolly couldn't engineer and fab that..... so perhaps I shouldn't comment.... But thats just ****in' ridiculous. Sigorney, kill it before it grows.
Safarinut,I can see yer point on the old ("7' springer front end choppers")But ya gotta remember that those were about br*** balls and good drugs.... at least thats how I remember it?!! >?!@#$?!?

    Haha.

Well others have already said it. Interesting exercise, hell of a lot of fabrication, but kind of silly looking by most standards.

I appreciate you showing the work, but it doesn't really fit in on a traditional hot rod and custom message board.
