You guys with dropped F1's anyone customized fender wheel openings so they match? Thinking of raising rear fenders an extending the front of them down to mate back to running board? Any other ideas or just leave it alone?
Here is front fenders raised 3 3/4 inches, rears a little over 3 inches, and then pancakes good 4 inches. You can see how much the running boards had to come up Sent from my SM-G970U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
They both have alot of rake to make openings look even. Like this one just rear raised an front of rear extended down
nocupholders looks good. Post 1 has been lowered so much it looks goofy and undriveable. Post 4 is undriveable. 1 and 4 are not traditional customs
Hows post 1 not traditional? Stock c-notch frame, stock body, stock rear axle, 3" dropped axle in front. May have to raise back up a little, prob just bigger tires but on stock leaf springs???
Move the rear wheels to rearward first! [extend the wheelbase so the rear wheels are central to the arch] Then lift the whole vehicle up a couple of inches. Don't lift the rear fender! there are swage lines on both the front and rear fenders that should be at the same height to each other. The sample in post #4 shows these lines at different heights! Once you focus on these lines you can't "unsee it"
Yea the lines deff dont line up but the openings are on point may have to raise an redo wheel openings, bed an fender prob not in exact location but can prob slide axle back one center pin hole an get close
Here it is with the fender raised slightly with my humble photoshop skills, but I have to ask, Isnt that rear fender sagging in the back or raised in the front or both? Is it mounted in factory bolt holes with same size bolts? bed level? To be honest Ive never saw a problem with the way they look from the factory if they are mounted correctly, just my humble .02 as well.
That looks pretty super to me and yes it is the original bed with original fenders but bed may be little off just set it up there or front off jack holding it up.
LM14 "A trick I have for these decisions is play with them in 1/24 scale. A lot faster and cheaper!" That looks great, but to be realistic the door handles need to droop about 20 degrees lol.
Raising just one fender throws off the accent crease and they won't line up. It's less noticeable on that rust bucket but once you see the mismatch, you will always see the mismatch, especially with a quality paint job. Personally, I like the look of the high arch front fender opening. Some owners, here on the forum, resolve the whole issue of the fender openings with fender skirts on the back.
You state that you are "Thinking of raising rear fenders an extending the front of them down to mate back to running board". From the looks of your project, I'm guessing that you have a stock frame and hopefully the original body mount cushions. You aren't going to get the fender opening lip and the fender reveal lines to match up if that's what you are trying to accomplish. The gap between the rear fender opening and the rear fender's reveal line is about 2 inches whereas it’s almost nothing on the front fenders. So you need to either modify the fenders, or do like Henry Ford did and align the Body Reveal line (leaving the front fender to have a opening that is visually higher than the rear fender opening). I don’t think they lined up from the factory. So I think about the best you can do is to make sure that the body reveal lines are visually parallel once the vehicle is on the ground. To me, it looks like you need to raise the back of the bed up about an inch and a half to two inches and it should look “right”. Here is some pictures with lines drawn on them so you can see what I’m trying to convey. Fender Line to Fender Lip Differences: Fender line not match but wheel opening does: What you currently have:
Has to be illusion its the original fenders on original bed with original rails But as you can see now its pretty level according to running boards
Nice F man, it looks good as is, but that’s just my opinion! I like them “factory installed” Cheer! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yea think I'm gonna leave them where they are, think I can live with it esp considering the amount of work it take to change now
I think the design gets too "busy" when you play around too much with the horizontal lines of a car, and the fenders are a major visual focal point of the design and flow. The example above seems extra "busy" as it's missing the hood and a uniform paint job, but IMHO the proportions of the car are off. My eyes are jumping up and down trying to figure this car out.
