I'm such a loser for not making it out. Oh well, had to TCB. Thanks for all the pics, I can't wait to get home and fire up the hi-speed. Dial up ****s!
Thanks for the pics Rich. This kept me from having to make the drive, brave the heat, dodge the golf carts, & wade through what looks to be hundreds of cars that would fall into the "average old ****" category. JH
Thanks for posting those, this is the first one I have missed, and the car that I crew for did not make it either.
It was in a ragged gl*** model a roadster. I overheard the owner say it was a 60's Ford racing engine, DOHC, 32V.
the roadster was steel ,just barely. it had tons of bondo. the eng is a very rare gurney- westlake. a indy car eng. very noisey. thanks for the pics. didn't get to see as much of the show, due to being in the pits. a big thanks. jim.
Awesome photo's the - rodster!! I know that was a ton of enjoyable work ya did there. Thank you for sharing. Man, there was a alot of cool stuff there. Joel
That is a mid `60's Indy Ford V8. It was the first engine to really challenge the Offy's. It was a development program by Ford begining with the `63 pushrod "Fairlane" V8 in the Lotus Fords and culminating with this dual overhead cam 4- valve aluminum V8 you see here. The kicker is if you pull those heads off essentially what you have is a small block Ford. The bottom end is basically what Ford used when they came out with the Boss 302 in `69. I've seen picture of Mario Andretti, A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney running these things in sprint cars on dirt. Jim Busby ran two in a top gas rail in the late `60's. I'm pretty sure A.J. bought up the tooling and continued with this engine under the "Coyote- Foyt" banner. links: www.allamericanracers.com/vintage-ms8-01.html www.geocities.com/infieldg/v8indy4cam.html
Thanks for all of the pictures! I felt bad about not going but you made me feel like I was there. Talk about a lot of cool stuff in one place!
