I just bought a 1964 Chevy Biscayne. It is located in Mansfield, CT and I need to get it moved to my place in Coventry, CT. after Labor Day. 6.7 miles. Anybody have a trailer and a couple of hours spare time? My budget allows for $100.
I'd agree that checking with local wrecker services with roll backs is the first thing I'd do.. If you have it all ready with tires aired up and easy to back up to winch on and go and easy to drop off the cost usually isn't too bad IF you are good with their schedule. Ask the local guys who they use. The other thing is check with the local U hauls and other rentals on what they charge for short term rentals. Again have it ready so you don't have any dinking around and have a come along or other way to winch it on the trailer if it doesn't run well enough to drive on. I rented a tow dolly here picked it up at a little after 8 drove 75 miles and picked up an OT car and towed it back and took the trailer back as soon as I dropped the car off in the yard and it cost 65 bucks.
If you can't get a car towed 6.7 miles for 100.00 or less - there is something seriously wrong. Then again - it is Connecticut...… a expensive state. ( I grew up there so I know what it is like. )

There are a couple of the in Mansfield or coventry or between. That keeps (or should keep) the cost down from the guy who has to drive 20 miles to get where the car is.

Sign up for AAA, give 'em a call. (I wouldn't do this. But I think it would work, or used to, till they got wind of it)
If you have a friend with a truck, rent a tow dolly and haul it the 7 miles. Most places require the vehicle to be currently registered, but I'd go for it. Otherwise I'd price a rollback trip. If all else fails, Get a U Haul truck AND trailer for the day. Figure in 20 ish miles and that'll put you right around $100;
