Maybe, maybe not. Ford used a lot of different bellhousing bolt patterns, and there are other things that might be different. So, to answer your question, we need to know exactly what Ford-O-Matic you have now, and which one you want to swap for. Including what engine each was originally behind.
THE FORDAMATIC 3SPEED THAT IS IN NOW IS HOODED TO A 390 CID FORD AND THE 66 COMES FROM ANOTHER GALAXIE ALONG WITH THE BELL HOUSING AND TORQUE CONVERTER
The 63 should have the Cruise-O-Matic, and the 1961-64 versions of it are the same. The 66 probably has the C-6 transmission.
If it's from a car that came with a 390, then it should fit the engine. As for the mount, driveshaft, linkage, etc I don't remember enough to know if it's a bolt in, or if you'll have to change things.
THANKS THAT ANSWERS MOST OF WHAT I NEED TO KNOW, I'M, SURE THE 66 TRANS IS LONGER THAT THE 63 SO I WILL HAVE TO HAVE A DRIVE SHAFT BUILT, UNLESS THE TAIL SHAFT WOULD SWAP????
In '66, the 390 cars were usually still equipped with the Cruiso, and the 428 cars got the C6- and the '66 C6 still had the "green dot" shifting pattern. In '67 the C6 got a new valve body with the new PRND21 pattern
That's probably a good thing. Best thing to do is to spend a while looking at both transmissions, and see if they look the same, or different, and what the differences are. If you're asking the question, then you probably have access to both transmissions, eh? Take a look, do some measuring, etc. Take your time at it.
THAT GOOD ADVICE AND YES I DO HAVE BOTH TRANSMISSIONS I AQUIRED THE 66 YESTERDAY ALONG WITH THE BELL HOUSING AND CONVERTER SO TIME WILL TELL, THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT
If the heel comes off the trans like a stick shift it’s a cruise o Matic one piece case is a c 6. Small case early trams is a ford o match for small motor cars
C6 -an aluminum case with the bell housing cast as part of the transmission case. At least 3 different bolt patterns I can think of. FE, 302 V8/300 L6, and one for the 351M / 400 V8 & 460 style engines. On Cruise-O & Ford-O automatics typically you'll find a cast iron transmission body and a removable bell housing. All the bells I've seen have been aluminum. Good luck with your project. -Dave
