Im doing the PerTronix Ignition thing on my 48 ford flathead 8 ,so I might as well do everything else, what is the best way to dismantle this octopus to change cap, and are these wires ok with the new unit

I moved this to the main board. electronic ignition is not a subject for the traditional hot rod section
Restore the distributor to original 1948 specs and use the 12 volt coil and condenser that Linder advises. Then change the cap, rotor, and the cap clips to 42 style and you will have a much easier to service cap and wires. No need for Pertronix.
