I am building a 30’ Ford roadster with a 354 hemi and am now deciding on a manual tranny. I am thinking of an 18 spline A833od from Passon? Looking for thoughts on how the shifter will sit in place and any other advice - pros/cons ?
I wasn't aware of a 18 spline OD 833. To my knowledge, witch isn't saying much, the OD transmission is the weakest and the 18 spline the strongest. But there were two different tail shaft housings for the B/E body trans with two different shifter locations. Then you have the A/F body with a different length tail shaft but they are fine spined both OD and 1 to 1.
I think Passon made a 5 speed o.d. In the stock type case. It is very strong,,,,they added the extra gear in the tail housing area. Tommy
It’s right underneath your right leg... lemme go see if I took a picture of a ‘31 coupe I built with an A833OD
I have the passon hemi overdrive a833 in my muscle car. I run 4.30 gears like I have 3.55 in 4th. I love the trans. I debated going with the t56 but would of had to do floor mods. Passons 5 speed A855 is a 5 speed trans but stand in a loooooong line to get one. The case is a bit bigger (longer) because of the extra 5th gear. I myself am currently working on a 30 coupe with 401 nailhead and the A/f body a833 trans (making my own adapters) I have also been looking at the shifter and scratching my head. El Scotto were you worried about bending the shifter with extreme shifting?
Don't forget the trucks and vans ! Bothe 6cyl and 8cyl versions....last one I pulled came out of a van at picknpull.
