Last time I asked Vern about the street Anglia. his cousin had it and it was in sad shape. The cousin wanted a lot of money for it also. I think the street car had a BBC in it. The SBC powered black and red Anglia above, was bought by Vern from Lyle Hefel of Illinois and was named Taxi, which Vern changed to Toxic. The red and white 55 in the same photo was the second car Vern raced at Des Moines Dragway, but was so nice, he built an all red 55 to replace it and then after that car bought the above Anglia. Iowa Al Booton Former Moats crewman I have a few photos of different Moats cars, some I took, some I did not. alanhomer@aol.com
the color description of a goldish baby poop yelow kinda matches the description of one around here ! the owner has a large wrecker crane service and has everything painted in his colors ! i remember seeing the car sitting outside of the middle school i went to ! i believe he still owns the car ! daves crane in union iowa ! not sure if its the same car your looking for though ?

If you already have not contacted and posted up at the Drag Strips, I'd suggest to at Eddyville, Cedar Falls and Humbolt.... Here are links to there websites: http://www.eddyvilleraceway.com/ http://www.humboldtcountydragway.com/wp/ http://www.cedarfallsraceway.com/ Vern used to come to Eddyville all the time back in the '70's & 80"s and there are allot of guys that know him and his cars. I've been gone from that area since after I managed the Eddyville track. One of the Tech guys in the '70's is a good friend of mine named Kenny Stek, and he lives in Ottumwa now.
still looking for his old car /one fellow said it went to illinois ???? ANYBODY OUT THERE SEEN IT ??? THANKS MIKE
Although I do not know where the car is at this time, I as lucky enough to have ridden in the car with Vern. Oh, that would include times only two tires were on the ground. That car would go skying the front end at will. I was also there when the picture was taken of the Anglia front tires 3 feet in the air in a bank drive thru. The picture was in Vern's shop for many years. He has now p***ed as of Jan. 15th, god's speed Vern.
****s to hear of his p***ing. I spent an evening in the pits with him at Heartland Park drag strip in Topeka,Kansas. He spun a bearing in his Funny Car and was thrashing to get it back together. He was very friendly even though he was so busy. I still have a T shirt of him and his car. I will always think of him fondly.
I met Vern Moats back in 1970. He was building the drag motors for a 56 Chevy Bel air we raced at Eddyville Dragway. I remained friends with Vern ever since and crewed on a few of his funny cars. I was also very sad to hear of his p***ing, that one hurt. I only remember the Anglia being orange, 454 Chevy big block with 1 four barrel Holley carb, Cragar SS mags (Vern was a dealer, that's where I got mine from for my big block 69 Camaro), and a 4 speed, 2 black racing buckets for seat and full roll cage, but NO colored windows. I had many miles in the p***enger seat with all 4 wheels on the ground and sometimes only 2. Man that was a fun ride!!!!
