    I do! hahaha
Livin' out in the country has it's drawbacks.

KIRK- the price seems very fair to me. Have you considered putting it in the National Classic Auto Trader?
Certain cars just seem to sell better than others on Ebay. Maybe put '32' in your ad.hahaha

Alex is right KIRK, the car is too nice for some ebay rookie to go around claiming he built it. Drive it to Gambino's place, switch a couple of plug wires so it won't run right, get a ride home and let Alex and his boys go after it for a while. Not quite carnapping but maybe it will work.

Too much competition on ebay anyhow. Its like going to a car lot with 10,000 cars, nobody can make up their minds. J's bucket has been up there a couple of times too with a quickie in it that is worth half the asking price on the blasted thing. Still no buyer.

OK, a 72 V8 Vega sleeper, 55 Chevy big block gasser project and the $1,200 I made on a steering wheel at the roadster show straight across.

  12. Yeah, have a reserve if you must, but start the bidding at like $500.

eBay is a waste of time and money. Most guys just surf there thinking it's a car show.
Try all the other sites that sell rods/customs. There are a ton of free sites and some good pay-as-you-go sites. I had a roadster for sale on a couple free sites and I'm still getting calls 2 years later.
You have to market that thing man! If you PM me, I'll send you a friend's name who will sell it for you for a small commission. He sells at least 3-4 rods/customs per week.

    :)

I find it FUNNY about all the whining about the high prices on stuff and how the eBay FOOLS have run the prices WAY UP on JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ...:) But now it is whining about NO MONEY and No bids...

FACT ... Customs just do not really bring the $$$ unless they are well known, with history. Not everyone likes customs. Lot of folks do not like green cars ... The SBF is NOT as popular as some of the other engines ...

There's a Butt for every seat ... you just have not found the right BUTT yet...

$16,500 and it need things to be a road worthy ride ? ... A lot of guys cannot get the other half to see spending $16,500 knowing it needs more work . I like the car BUT IF I was in the market for a Fat Fender Ford ... I would spend a little more and buy a 40 Ford ...

You need to finish it ... and then put another 8 to 10 on the price tag IMHO ...

Nope. It's a running driver now.

It's not "finished" but it can be enjoyed right now. Finished, I'd ask $30k+

Running driver is NOT road worthy IMHO :D
But then I live where it rains and it is 95 plus degrees today ... at 90 % humidity . My wife and I need A/C and windows ... ;)
I like the coupe BUT ... :) The HAMB is a bad place to sell anything over a thousand dollars ... and eBay ... it is weird ...

Best of Luck on selling the coupe ... really

    Kirk,

Ebay is not the place to sell a nice, tastefully done kustom. I had my kustom '56 Merc on E*ay and it got to $10,000. I sold it for three times that at a local show/auction. I think the main problem is that most people want to see a car first hand before they commit to buying it, especially since it's been modified. It's hard to tell if a car has 6 gallons of bondo in it from a picture 2000 miles away. A six day auction doesn't leave much time for that. Unless it's a cheap project, a concours restoration with paper work or a late model, I doubt you'll get even close to what it's worth.

You're other problem is that it's not 100% finished. Most people surfing E*ay for a kustom couldn't change the oil themselves, let alone finish a car and put an interior in it. They're looking for something reliable they can wash and wax.

Certain famous kustoms sell for high $$ but most kustom car guys want to build their own car, not drive someone elses. I'm speaking from first hand experience. I bought my '56 Merc already done and drove it for 2 years making minor improvements. It was my first '50s car and introduction to kustoms. Unless I radically changed the car, which would have been stupid since it was so nice, I would never get past the "that's St Germain's" Merc", nice car....talk, so I sold it. If I you bought a completely stock car, you don't have the same problem.

Take it to a car show like Carlisle PA with a for sale sign where guys that know what's been done to it can appreciate it. I bet it'll sell in the first day.

Kind of ironic that you would criticize his syntax, yet you can't even spell the word "sentence" correctly.

    NEVER ... :)
    That's why I am building a 3W coupe ...

  23. How does one determine if a car is less or more than the one HE has?:D
Its in the eye of the.........buyer- simply put.
I equate your experience with this analogy......
A custom is and can be for two different crowds- the OLD and the YOUNG.
AN old guy wanting a custom, will want it more period perfect....say a deep Maroon or black-with cad Sombreros and more classic Custom look like a Sloped chop/Matranga style roof and maybe a longer quarter glass opening.....

The young custom buyer would like the bright green color and painted rime with WWW better- and would like the more level looking chop.....
Guess who is likely to have access to the 16500 PLUS the amount left to spend till it is "DONE"?
I have personally been down the same road..I tried to sell my 58 ElCamino a year or two ago and all I got was insulted......not even a tenth of the labor costs to build it were bid.
    So it will stay here.
Id say your car is worth the asking price -you just have to luck onto the one person who also believes that.

Most buyers buy what they WANT and do not place a lot of importance on common sense[at least thats me]-Id say that is the deciding factor most often,.........desire....... not what its worth or what he NEEDS......

Kirk, I saw it on there and thought to myself "Self...this thing is gonna go high." I never checked back.

  26. Every week there is about 15 50 chevy pickups on ebay. Every week 1 sells. I tried a few weeks ago. Mine and 19 others didn't make reserve. I down in Florida that was similar to mine in color and condition did sell for around 10,5. I would have sold mine for that to finance the next project. I've had trouble selling street rods my whole life. There's always the wrong color, wrong interior, wrong wheels, just paid my taxes, etc. Some people have way more success at this than others. I just think it takes lots of patience unless you get lucky. Everyone knows there are down sides to ebay but there's nothing else out there that draws the market to it like it does. I had a couple of thousand views. How many publications will actually get that many people to read every single ad. Maybe the goodguys gazette and street scene do, but depending on what the publication caters to, you may be in the wrong market. I don't have any advice, I've had the same exp. for about 30 years. The race car stuff I can sell in short order, just not hot rods or street rods.

Kirk, If you watch the market, you have seen a this, but an unchopped, fadded paint/surface rust bodied 47 longdoor coupe went for $20k on ebay. It had late model tan leather cadillac seats that looked awful, a junk yard mustang II front end, 9" rear, on a 2 way cheap air bag system that didnt even have a tank, and a 302 in it. It went to 20k! I figured my car was definately worth that much or more, since it is chopped (and well done by a pro with 35+ years under his belt), all new suspension, a real Air Ride brand system, but who knows, I dont wanna sell it anyway. I guess the market goes up and down, and you just have to hit it at the right time. The guy who bought that rusty piece of shit for $20k should be crying now.

I sell on ebay for most of my living ever since the industry I worked in really started to get bad. Its a sellers market in just about everything but cars.

A friend of mine is looking to buy a hot rod or custom (doesnt have an exact car in mind, just waiting till he finds something he likes), and due to time I guess doesnt want to build it. He asked me to help him find a car last weekend, and this was the first (and only so far) that I reccomended. He seemed kind of interested, so if you hear from a guy in Maryland about it, its him.
