I know we've all seen a 54' with aerostar springs, but its always interesting to see how different the results are. So, here's another set of "now and then" pics (backwards from before and after....whoops). 54' Mainline w/223 6 cylinder and a 3 speed. I'm sitting at 24.5" from the floor to the wheel opening, at the center, before any settling.
For comparison with a 302/AOD combo in a '54 previously was a 223 Six the 302 is about 200 lbs less. https://mainlineford.wordpress.com/2016/02/02/dropping-the-front-end/
Your wording leaves me a little confused. The pic inside the garage I hope is after, correct? Jeff is correct......results will vary according to drivetrain and other accessories. A good example:......in 1957, Ford used 9 different front coil spings to ***ure that all vehichles left the factory with the same stance regardless of drivetrain or add-ons.
Sorry about the wording...usually it would be "before and after", because I s***ched the photos in the wrong order, I decided to say "now and then". I try to be funny at times. It doesnt always work out....just ask my Wife.
Yup. When I swapped in my 302 w/alum heads my 56 sat higher in the front. That is why I originally did my Aerostar swap.
That is interesting....looks taller than mine. maybe its the blackwall and black wheel combo playing tricks on my eyes.
Same experience on my 55, I installed the Aerostar Springs and had a 2"+ drop. Looked great, and while it handled well the suspension travel was not to my liking. Seemed very stiff, so I monkeyed with it and installed a Mr. Gasket 1" coil spacer (not the slip-on type, these spacers necessitated a coil spring removal) and now I really like the ride and the stance. I was amazed at how adding 1" of travel did so much for the car. The 292 Y block is in it, with cast iron intake, original heater components, original style br*** radiator (4 rows too), AC Sandeen compressor and matching items, 4 barrel, etc, etc, etc. All steel up front, no fibergl***... I guess this would sit the front end as low as possible. I have a big write-up with photos over on my website, hotrodreverend.com.
