Went racing in an old banger I knocked up outta old shit lying around the property last weekend. It’s on an claypan ( dry dirt lake) that was raced on in the early 1900s. Just over a 2 mile track, most fun I’ve had with my clothes on . Mostly vintage racers, pre 40 but a few As and Ts and bikes ,70 plus cars and 40 plus bikes made for a fat 5 days of fun. 66 mph wasn’t to bad for the old banger that has sat for the last 41 yrs after the body was used for a rod. Couldn’t see for shit with 8 cars on the track at a time but what a blast! Self indulgent couple of pics but google the Red dust revival to see more if you’re inclined to.
Wow - very Cool - terrific pics - Thanks - many pics would make be great to enlarge for framing and hanging on wall - worth the time to do a further online search for more on this event
Because of the type of event there was no overtaking allowed in the car events. We had a handicap start(set our times on the friday) and yeah, with eight cars running at a time it was pretty insane trying to run down the guy ahead of you. Some of the cars were getting nearly a full lap head start. Due to the handicap start and being 7th to start,it made an interesting chase as you couldn't even see your own grill shell at times, what a blast!!
You should do it, a long days drive across the paddock, you just gotta watch out for the big rabbits.
This is the track out to the lake to show what the dust was like, fine as talc powder. And 1 of on the way home, stopped for a beer after the nearly 900 mile round trip
