1 3/4” wide 1/4” thick My Tudor front spring is 1 3/4” wide 3/16” thick. Plus the center bolt/locator pin is round. Look at the clamps as well, haven’t seen these before. This sucker is heavy too! Thanks fellas! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Looks like an old replacement (Western Auto or Sears) for 28-31 passenger car. I believe the AA truck front springs are 2" wide?
Thank you! It is s beefier spring, the leafs are 1/4” thick as opposed to the other 2 I have which are 3/16” thick..... Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It could be that the aftermarket spring didn't have as good steel as original so they had to make it thicker, or it was a heavy duty option.
I think AA springs are wider. It's been a while since I looked at once closely, but I recall them being wider. As for the thickness, perhaps it's who made it, and like it was mentioned, maybe they made it that thick to get the same strength, based on what steel they use?
Unfortunately my spring research institute books only go back to model year 1950. If the stenciled numbers are correct "42-" is Ford passenger car. Ford truck numbers start "43-"
