while bidding on something on ebay.. and actually winning, i picked up this 51 merc 4-door which looked pretty clean from the pics, and i was told it ran and the last time it ran was about 25 years ago... you know the story well, it was actually true! i picked up the car from texas and it was in better shape than i hoped for, and it fired up! while looking around at the other junk the guy had. i asked him "you said you had some other old stuff you were gettn rid of?" he said "ya theres another old car in the shed there" low and behold an untouched 48 super deluxe! the car was extremely clean and the last time it was tagged was in the 60's! it was just tooo good to pass up since i had one a few years back that i sold for $2500 that was a terd and so when he said he would take 2000 for it, i said "SOLD" well we got the 48 to fire up the other day, it had a loose part in the distributor, probably the reason for parking it and it runs bitchin! well thats my ebay barn find. amazing what comet and a abrillo pad will do to the color huh? and the merc its not even for me.. its my ladies!!
You got a nice pair. Damn man...that is every dudes dream. Thanks for keeping the hope of the barn find alive!
Sometimes I think...man it's 2006 there cannot be anymore shit in barns, but there is...Amazing Good luck
Yea -- I was looking at a house to buy and saw an old Dodge buried under years of dust and other cast off things in a forelorn garage. The guy's dad had built the house and garage and it was his first new car. The last plate on it was a 1971. The father passed away a while back and the son was getting ready to sell the house, but the car was not negotiable. I can understand why though. You do hate to see them go . . . like many old cars where you stop and go "can I buy" and it's a "oh, yea. . . I'm going to fix that one up". Yea, usually right after they decide to buy the first set of new tires for the 1982 Buick that looks like someone rammed the cart corral from Piggly Wiggly into it. BTW: I'm not a Buick guy . . . I'm really a Mopar guy . . . but prices on anything that even remotely could "have a Hemi" are thru the freakin' roof.
Hell the merc looks like all it needs is a wash ,compound, and a wax and away you go. Just drive the 48 . Oh and did I say bastard but in a good way hahaha.

I've seen both cars. They are really a great find!He drove the '51 to the LA roadster show last Saturday, with his Betty,of course.Jeolousy...it's an ugly thing.
Nice finds man. I build metal barns and buildings for a living here in Texas. People are putting stuff in them all the time. Hopefully they are putting in stuff that we are all going to want in 50 yrs. (Though I won't be around then), but I haven't found any thing that cool though.
Were is all that shit when I am looking, Not around me. But thats a cool find man I say just drive um dust and all.
Yeah it was definately a cool find. I've been looking for a rust free four door for my lady to customize. The merc is so clean it has the original headliner the gauges work, even the dome light and glove box light come on! Almost sad to cut it up but it must be done. Now I just have to get the old man, that's a block away, to sell me his '51 2-door that's just as clean as the 4-door. It's been sitting for the last 30 years! Talk about a tease!
