Picked up 4 Aluminum Sprint wheels today with tires mounted. Fronts are 14" and appear to be 7" wide. There is a 7265 on the back. Does that indicate the particular model (aka Sprint) or is there a way to determine manufacture date and size using this number? The rears are I believe 15"x8"and have # 7071 as well as # 708 on back. I always thought that Sprints were stamped with size designation on the back, but apparently these aren't. Can anyone shed any light on these wheels for me, please? Thanks, Don.

This is a partial shot of a Halibrand wheel spec sheet, based on this and your numbers yours are called Speedway, they had a slightly different look to the window compared to a Sprint.
Note that there is a casting number and a wheel number.
May need to squint a little.

......Thanks a bunch for this info. Not sure I ever even knew that the "Speedway" ones existed. Now I'm a little disappointed. They came with the Hal "knock-offs" that I really don't like and probably won't ever use. They always seemed a little too "street roddy" to me. I may just clean the wheels up some and sell them. Not fond of the 2 drilled patterns, but does make it convenient for use with Ford (4 1/2) and GM (4 3/4). Thanks again, Don.

... clean 'em up, chunk some polish on 'em, and let's see some full mock up, on the '40. For pictures sake. Hell, they may look really good. Then what happens ? :D

    I'll wait here. :)

What exactly is the difference between the "Speedway" and the "Sprint"?
I bought some new 12 x 15 Sprints back when Halibrand still made the wheels I recall seeing Speedway listed but paid little attention.

The Speedway has a lip all around the slot while on a Sprint the lip is only on three sides with the ends blending out by the step to the rim flange.

.......Excellent question and hopefully someone can post up some additional info. As DDDenny mentioned, there's apparently some difference in the windows. I seem now to also remember seeing the Speedway models in ads back in the day after he indicated that these were them.

..........Thanks for that info. I should have done more research, but I found these at a show over the week-end and the price seemed right, so I sprung for 'em. Hope that I might sell the "knock-offs" to recover some money.

Just a thought Lo, as has been suggested try them on your 40, they are still Halibrands and at 55 mph or standing still they still look great. Just a disclaimer I love Halibrands and old American TT's.

Those wheels would look Terrific on a certain black 40 Standard coupe !! Mount 'em and Go. I can't tell the difference in the 2 styles and most others can't either. I think the duel patterns look racy also. A change in wheels changes the look of the whole car. Later Bill

  19. If you are going to sell them, PM me what you'd like to get out of them, I may be interested or know someone who may be.

    Guilty
I bought a set of those K.O.'s (faux) when I bought my Sprints in the early 90's, hey, it was what we did in those days, we didn't have "streetrod" police back then!
I will say that the Halibrand versions are of better quality than some of the other ones.

The knock off caps for those wheels aren't street roddy , they were copied from sprint cars from the 50's . We hot rodders copied parts that were on the sprints .

Another vote for putting them on the car. Speedway or Sprint, who cares, they look great in the photos and will look great on your '40.

Put one on the front of the '40. It really emphasizes the fact that I need to get the front lower. Guess I'm just a steelie kind of guy.:) 20190925_073601.jpg IMG_0287-vi.jpg

Me likey !! I think it gives your coupe a racy look. What size tires are these and what size is mounted on the steelie ? They would look super on your highboy as well. Two sets of wheels and tires for both rides for one low price. ;) Later Bill

The Halibrands have 175R14 on the front and 225X70R15 on the rear....Older tires, good tread and no sign of dry rot, but too old to feel safe on. The '40 has 195X65R15 on front and 215X70R15 on rear due to a pretty wide axle.
