I have a 1948 Candian built Chevy Fleetline Aerosedan. The interior is finished but the person who did the headliner covered over where the dome light should go. My thought was to do a little slit in the headliner and put the needed parts in, the mounting plate is there but I am missing the housing, lens and bezel. I have purchased an American made Fleetline setup and it doesnt fit, so after some research it appears that the Canadian built and American built Fleetlines used different dome light housings. Does anyone in Canada know of sourcing for classic chevy parts, or a parts yard thet deals in the parts I am searching for...
First picture (blurry and more oval) is of a Canadian Fleetline dome light and the second picture (pointy lens) is of an American built Fleetline dome light
Has it been wired for the dome light? Or, are the original wires still there? You may want to be absolutely sure before you make any holes in the headliner?
Yes, the dome light switch is on the pillar and there are wires running up from the switch, cannot confirm that they are in fact near the bracket
What should be up there would be a constant feed. Also there should be the switched ground coming from the pillar switch and probably the door jamb switches too. If you have door jamb switches. If you could get your hands on a small sounder device, the type used by a phone company employee, you may be able to touch the wire going up from the pillar switch and see if you can detect the beeping sound up at the area of the dome light. Hopefully you or someone with experience in this kind of thing might be able to prove the wires were there before opening the material.
