Technical Harbor Freight prices

Anyone besides me think that Harbor Freight prices have changed lately ?

 

Just buy quality used tools on eBay and call it day.

 

I think the better stuff at HF is getting more expensive( a lot) but the cheap junk is still cheap, but it gets people in the door

 

I agree the high end stuff is more expensive.

 

I don't shop there.

 

My tools say "MADE IN THE USA"......

 

Prices will go up due to the tariffs. Not meant as a political statement, just a fact of life.

I use their quilted blankets a lot at work and home, can't beat the price.

 

Noticed that "Full Custom Garage' uses HF tools. Ian Rousell is a good guy regardless!

 

I bet he don't use the soft metal transfer punches HF sells. About two or three strikes and they are done.

 

It smells funny in that place...

 

When the prices were lower some 25 years back the stuff was better. It's kind of like the Big Mac that's tiny now and cost's 5 bucks+ when you add in Uncle Sam.

 

I never go to mac donalds.

 

I stay out of there too, but now and then if I need something, they probably have it. I needed a seal driver set in a pinch, $18.99 less 20% I had it. Their dead-blow hammers have a lifetime warranty on them, those receipts I save.

 

The only good thing to walk outta H F with is the cash register.

 

Do all of them smell like a tire store?

 

..................Am I weird, 'cause I love the smell of new tires in a tire store, maybe not so much in a HF store.?

 

..............He seems smart enough to know what he can buy at HF and what to avoid.

 

If your not interested in quality tools, your not interested in a quality build.

 

I've noticed more and more of their tools quietly showing up on different shows here and there. Mainly their heavy duty angle griders.
That is probably the one tool I have been the most impressed by. I bought one as something to get me by until I could get a good one, and I'm still using it years later. A few years ago I saw they had them on sale for less than $20, so I grabbed another one. Those things are pretty much bulletproof. Now the $10 one is pure junk!

Just a note to you " I never buy cheap stuff" folks who don't have heirs to pass your stuff along to , your snap-on , Craftsman, Cornwell, Mac, Matco , etc tools will sell for about the same money at the auction/ yard sale as my china/ wherever made stuff that got the job done , albeit without as much expense , when I am done with them . I'd rather leave my heirs something of monetary value that has actual value .....

 

Wow! That is quite a stretch to reach that conclusion.

 

I dont know, the only thing i've ever bought from HF still works 4 years later. It was a 10 dollar float charger, great purchase imo.

I bought a brake from Harbor Freight, it broke the second time I used it, off shore junk.

You would expect to get more use out of a 400.00 dollar tool than one afternoon.



We spent a few hours making a stand for this brake, lesson learned.
I replaced it with a brake from Baileigh and never had a problem since. HRP

 

I've got the same brake, broke it in the same place (although after about a year of use); replaced those cast 'arms' with some homemade steel ones. Still going strong 10 years later... for half the money of the Baileigh.

HF prices have gone up on some of their stuff due to the 'trade war' tariffs and country of origin. But the tariffs are based on the wholesale import price, not retail, so they haven't gone up that much.

 

Why not take an hour and weld/ repair the tool ?

 

I didn't buy the tool with the intention of re-making it after a afternoon of use, I was able to return it 3 days after the purchase and get a refund, I then ordered a brake from Baileigh a alliance vendor and haven't looked back, too me it was worth the extra money spent. HRP

 

Those arms are cast iron, so aren't so easy to fix. The Baileigh is the same tool, just with a few extra features and a bit better quality control. And I assume that repair parts may be available from Baileigh, something that HF is piss-poor at.
