My 93 302 has the oil dipstick tube in the block. I put on a front sump pan and timing chain cover off a 69 with has the dipstick tube in the cover. Question, how do block off the hole for the dipstick tube in the block???
I have the same set up. You can do just about anything you want but if I recall, I used a bolt and some RTV, no issues this far. You could probably also weld it closed or use a small copper plug like you would for a coolant p***age.
I widdled down a piece of dowel and wedged it in there. Redneck I know but that was 20 years ago and I was pretty poor then. lol.
I found another way that might be interesting because we have to pull the pan. To install the correct pan for our application. You can take an 1/8" pipe tap and tap out the hole and put in an 1/8" allen head plug. Maybe it will look like it came that way from the factory. I have done this a number of times and it has always worked out.
I have the opposite problem. I have a 2000 Explorer engine and the dipstick tube is on the block and I am trying to install a dipstick tube. I will have to plug the existing one, but not for a bit. Hopefully, I can get back on the 55 soon. It stalled when I had to build a truck for my nephew.
Yep. I ended up buying a repair kit for a diesel oil pan. I'll have to measure out the capacity fill the pan with water and mark the dipstick.
I would have tapped it for a plug if I would have noticed it before ***embly, engine is complete and the oil pan is installed so I don't want to take a chance getting metal in the pan
I was given the idea that they make 3/8 cup plugs, looks like a freeze plug. they sell them at Advanced Auto Parts for .49
