This is the last pic of the engine after I got it back from the builder. Since then, I've gotten most all of the accessories back on it, except for new truck water pumps. Of course Bob Drake was out of them on Black Friday when they would have been 20% off! Looks like I'll be waiting til next year when they get more in stock.

I've also been slowly getting the final parts to mate the later model (71) toploader to the engine that I converted to top shift with a Jeep tower.

The chassis is still in NJ, and I'm looking for transport down to TN. Being winter there, that will probably wait till spring as well.

The other current quest is for a 33/34 bed which are like hens teeth. I've been talking to Rudy down at Fullerton Fabrication, as he built the one I'm using as reference for mine. For his, they used a new bed from Macs, which is a pretty penny, but really nice and no wood sealed into channels under the bed to slowly rot out like in the originals. If anyone has a bead in a good bed, though, let me know!

Thanks! Yeah, if it's the black one in Europe, I'm thinking he may have it undervalued. The last one to sell at auction was from the Dingman Collection and it sold for nearly $190k!!! However, if the black one isn't of the same pedigree and not all original, then I get why it would be worth less.....then again, everything is worth whatever someone is (or isn't ) willing to pay for it!

I was thinking of keeping this one as a survivor as much as possible, seeing its history of use in building the first subway tunnel from NYC to NJ (from what I can discern) and having all the door lettering; however, now I'm leaning more towards it being very close to the Fullerton Fabrication build. I wax and wane....

The one I meant is in West Milton Ohio , looks to be a pretty nice bed for $1650.00. I don't think it has embossed side panels and it's a smoothie gate, so it probably doesn't mesh with your plans.

OHHHH! You were referring to a BED. I checked it out, and you're correct on the assessment. It also looks like its shorter than stock. Thanks for the heads up on it!

  6. Poboy: Are you planning on a stock appearing bed or modified? If modified, look at 35/36 beds. They are about right from the fender back. Shorten the front of it. I did this for a '32 pickup and it looked good. 100_0103.JPG This will broaden your search if it works for you.

That looks really nice! For now, I've narrowed my search to stock length beds. Maybe I'm the only one, but I really like that loooooooong look to them. I might open my mind as reality sets in, though! ;)

  8. I've got a line on about a guy with 4 or 5 beds here in the Northwest. I need one for my 34 closed cab. I could grab an extra. But shipping would be a killer.

Hmm....shipping down to CA would be nuts? I figured if I found it here on the west coast, getting a HAMB relay down here to LA wouldn't be bonkers. I'd just refurbish it here, then take it to TN whenever we move back there int he next couple years. PM me when you get a chance and let me know what your contact is asking for them, condition, etc. Thanks!!!

Have you contacted Jim Gordon at Antique Auto in Rosemead, CA? He has a restorodded, full fendered 34rpu. His store is on Garvey Blvd. Just west of Rosemead, South of the 10 Fwy.

  11. I didn't realize you were still in California. I'm trying to get out there in the next few weeks. I'll pm ya.

No. I've got parts of a 32 RPU but it needs a lot more parts.

Same here, looking for doors and back panel. I know Walden makes repops but they are pricey, looking very nice though.
