Somebody, anybody, everybody respond to this if you know anything about these things, I have two on a factory intake that I need to rebuild. I was quoted $300 by a local carb guru to rebuild the pair. Seems kinda pricey to me.

At the LA Roadsters show there was a guy hocking Vette parts who had the same intake with the carbs and was asking $1500 for it... for the carbs and intake only, no air cleaners, plumbing or linkage.

Are these things worth rebuilding? Are there any known replacements?

Lucky Burton did I miss anything or step on your toes? If I did, I didn't mean to, sorry.

It's really a restorer's numbers game on WCFBs; some are worth $25 and some are worth $1000, depending on what they're from. Unfortunately, the I.D. tag is often long gone, and you have to rely on clues like choke and throttle arm style, as well as casting numbers on the main body and air horn for identification. Print some pictures and I can probably tell you something about them.

I've had a few of these. I had one rebuilt by a local guy relatively cheap and sold it for $225. I've heard Corvette guys look for them and some go for big bucks. The stock one on my 57 Chevy had a "straight" bracket for the throttle arm. I kept this one to match the stock intake and air cleaner to restore and sell together someday. The one I sold had a bracket that was angled "under."

If you figure a shop rate of $50 an hour, that's six hours to rebuild two carbs. Sounds more than reasonable to me.

So does anyone know of any model carb that could be a replacement with or without an adapter plate for these WCFBs? I'm not sure that the WCFBs that I have are rebuildable to begin with. Keep in mind that I'm trying to put two of them on a factory GM intake, so they fit pretty tight together. I can post a pic if needed.

    Thanks,
    Vance

I seem to recall that the Rochester 4gc fits on some of the single 4bbl intakes that the wcfbs fit on, but not the dual quads....you're pretty much stuck with the wcfb on that intake.

I've seen early 'vette dual quad intakes with a pair of AFBs on adapters. The Rochesters definitely won't clear.

Any idea on where to start looking for those adapters?
