Greetings everyone! My name's Sarah, I live down in the New Orleans area and have recently with my boyfriend purchased a 1950 Chevy Fleetline car to restore. I've always loved old cars but have never really had the chance to help out under the hood; my BF worked at a shop where they restored cars but he mostly did the body work, not much under the hood. We're both thrilled about this, but seeing as we both have limited experience with these older cars (he worked mostly on Honda and Japanese engines, but he did help in restoring a few like this as well in the other part of the shop) it's great to find a message board to ask questions about and, frankly, to show progress. He's very very proud of his little (ha!) car and shows pics to everyone. I've uploaded a few pics into Photobucket of the car. (pic1 pic2 pic3) He was over the moon about the condition of the car (the interior is in great shape although seeing as it went through Katrina there's a bit of mold on the ceiling), but when we took the tires off to unstick the brakes we found the frame is set to break from corrosion. (I actually posted a question about that to the other forum, apologies for going about this intro/post thing backwards.) He's still happy about the car though and very set to see it through, and I'm all up for helping him out. We're both adamant about this being a true restoration not a hotrodding thing; he's going to do as minimal chopping as he can (we're going to have to take out the frame, there's no way around that; otherwise there's a few spots of cancer that need to be replaced too) and any upgrades he does will be safety oriented (so far he's thinking of changing to a 12V system, adding disc brakes instead of drums, and power steering). Okey, that was a bit long of an intro, but I hope you guys see where we are with the car, our enthusiasm, and fervent hope ya'll can help us out. Thanks for being here!!
