Due to me having a few back and shoulder problems, I decided to install power steering in my truck. It's the ugliest thing I've ever installed but and I mean BUT,.......... ITS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, I can put up with how ugly it is and it will grow on me for sure. It's now like driving a different truck.

  2. Well, don't stop there, tell us all about the install, what it takes to integrate it with a not computerized vehicle and what parts you used. Inquiring minds NEED to know.

20190130_163826.jpg Looks like an electric power steering system. I pulled one out of a 2007 Toyota car from the junkyard. Pretty cool I'd say. I grabbed the module with it and its basially a stand alone system. It just goes inline of the steering shaft with a sensor in the motor housing.
I'm curious where you got your system from?

  5. I thought the unit would be tied into the car's computer system. (speed sensor and stuff like that)
I don't need one on my Autocar, as I have a power box from a medium duty International, but for Al's truck, it looks like the bee's knees!

My unit was from a GM Vauxhall Corsa, as you said it just cut into the shaft to the steering box. You can purchase a manual control module, it's like a volume control. As I've said it's a delight to have the steering like this now.

No. The f450 donor steering should be sufficient. I was contemplating putting it in my Polaris RZR.

It is very manly......and rugged :p as I've said though it's transformed the driving, particularly when I was having to reverse the truck. Now I can do it with one hand.

You know before I fitted it I did keep looking at that and possible problem.:(
However when I took out the steering columb and checked it I found no problem.:)
And as I said it ticks all the boxes for me, particularly reversing.
Mind you it does look like it fills the gap. :D:D
