What is the best way to chop a 32 closed car W/S. Im in the middle of taking 3" out of the top of my 5w coupe. The w/s frame tapers from top to bottom by approx. 1/4" in the area in question. If I cut 3" off of the side legs, the curved bottom piece of the frame will be slightly narrow widthwise. What do most guys do. As I see it, I could make a relief cuts up high and bend it slightly in to match the bottom piece. This not an original w/s frame,: probably a Trautwein chromed or stainless repop Lot of chops been done but no one ever discusses the windshield.

My glass 5 w body came with the standard (in Australia) 3" chop. I got a steel windshield from Speedway-they don't sell chromed or stainless ones- and cut the required amount off the vertical legs, drilled the 4 holes for the screws and screwed it all together.
BTW the Speedway item was much better than the one supplied with my steel 5W body from UPAC, so much that I will be using a repaired original instead of the new UPAC.

When you cut the 3" off the vertical legs how did the bottom fit? I think I'll just do that and see how bad the gap is. Thanks for the reply

I just heat and bend the legs in a little.

Bottom fitted fine and the corner brackets are about 3/16" thick and they hold it in place plus the corner trim pieces cover up any slight variations in your angle cut.
