    This ad has been in Hemmings fr a couple of months:
    SAXON: 1914 roadster body, doors, fenders, 3 complete chassis with axles; also 1914-1917 4-cylinder engines (11 in stock), 6 radiators and shells, lots of extra parts, photos available, package deal, $2,750. 936-xxx-xxxx, TX. If it wasn't so far away, I'd be tempted to do something rash...

  6. It's a nice story ( guy crashes his 2CV during a desert raid, chops it up, builds a motorcycle and rides it out) but I'm not buying it. Myth Busters tried it and it was unridable

    I have an idea for a cyclecar that I've not seen before but I think will be big fun. I am curious to hear what this group thinks of it.
    What I need is a tiny car to winch up nearly vertical behind my motorhome that will hold 2 persons and a small dog and will be used to explore around while camping out.

    I already carry a 2003 Kawasaki 250cc Super Sherpa on the back bumper. I want to get another and build a chassis between the two. With a 38" bench seat between the bikes the overall width is 58". I will pair up the clutches, gear shifts and throttles with lots of fine tune adjustments possible. A golf cart rack and pinion looks good to go. Kawasaki says the 250's will give 30 hp each at 8500. Dry curb weight should be around 600 max. That gives a 1 hp to 10 lb power to weight ratio and should make a quick vehicle. Here's an early mock up. Seat bottom height is 25" Why have I not seen something like this before? It's a cheap way to get to a small 4 wheeler P1050530.JPG

    Yes, it is, thanks for asking. I built it in 1981 on a 2 ton Chevrolet chassis. Recently back on the road with a 5.9 Cummins diesel and getting over 16 mpg with a gross weight of 10,500 lbs.

    Thanks for sharing, Davie. I like the RV. Airstream inspired or maybe airliner with a Bugatti grille.
    If I my offer an opinion on the dual Sherpa plan... think about a lower seat height than 25" for the sake of CG.

    Bingo! You are quite right. Last night I lowered the seat to 21". And it can maybe come down some yet. The top of the fork tubes are the thing to see over and will drive the cowling up. I put on another chair and the 48" track seems wide for the 54" wheelbase. I'd like to keep it short to fit behind the Flyer. The 80" overall length of the Sherpa will tuck in below roofline winched up near vertically astern.
    I had a flash to think of this rig as 2 bikes and 1 sidecar. Know of any available Sherpas?

    I only know about Sherpas because one floated past on my local (Western NC) Craigslist a few months back,
    It caught my eye as I was scanning for a light flickable back road bike,

    There was a brief fad in the early '50s for these Morgan/GN specials. The 500cc class had been developed after the war as a low-cost racing formula, but with the rise of the Coopers and their ilk, the home constructors were outclassed (or outspent).
    GNs weren't worth much (Bill Boddy said that they went for 30 shillings [1½ pounds]) and early two-speed Morgans could be had for the asking out of a hedge or the bottom of a garden (you didn't need a Super Sports, any Morgan would do). Other than combining the two drivetrains, the build was mostly ironmongery.
    The RIP is the lowest of these that I've seen.
    One question I haven't been able to find an answer to is: Why only two speeds? Was the GN it was built on only a two-speed? The early belt-drive GNs, with the engine mounted longitudinally were, but I thought that one of the benefits of the GN gearset these specials used was four gears. Or was that only the Frazer-Nash?
