My 48 Ford flathead has a idling problem. It idles then it idles down. does this 4 times then dies. Rebuilt the carb and still does the same. The plugs are autolite 216s and were gapped between .028 and .032 . One side .028 other side .032. Opened the gap to .035 and it cured the idle problem. Will a wider gap hurt anything? Car was in a garage sitting for how long I do not know. 6 Volt neg ground. thanks
Does it start right back up after dying?? Could be the idle circuits on the carb or fuel pressure issues and yes an air filter choking or carb float seat needle sticking. Just because the carb was rebuilt doesn’t mean it’s done correctly. If you’ve noticed an improvement by adjusting the spark gap, I’d also check your voltage from the coil and try another condenser.
Carb works correctly. With gap opened up it starts after dying. Haven't checked voltage. Has stock air cleaner.
