hi guys, finished my 12 volt conversion, and installed a reducer before the speed controls, but something doesnt seem quite right. the coils in the reducer get red hot, like glow in the dark hot, and the wires seem to be getting a little warm as well. I dont have the reducer bolted to anything at the moment, but before I go through the trouble of doing so, does it sound like I have other problems, or is it just not being able to shed its heat well enough. I know it's going to get hot, this just seems excessive.

It’s a resistor. It turns electricity in to heat. Mount it to something to “sink” the heat away.

  3. I would try to find a universal 12v motor that will fit. Just my .02

is the 6v fan speed switch capable of handling 12 volts?

The switch should be fine with 12V. I'd dump the shunt and find a 12V motor that fits.
