Does anyone have a source for the 5/16-24 clip nuts used on front sheet metal on a 56?
Only place I can find them is Restoration Specialties and apparently they think they are made of gold.
    $12.50 for a pack of 5 and $20 shipping.
Or do you just use the 5/16-18 course thread nuts that are easy to find and much cheaper?

If your not building a show car, use the 5/16-18

Ace Hardware by me has them, co**** thread IIRC. Try your local Ace. Some parts stores should have those Dorman drawers with them. The back of my local Pep Boys has them too in bins.

I know the course thread is easy to find, the main reason I was looking for fine thread is I bought a bolt kit from Totally Stainless and they have fine thread bolts in the kit. Cheaper to go with the course thread and buy a few new bolts though.
    Thanks everybody!

Guys - he's looking for fine thread 5/16-24 not the 5/16-18. He says he can get all he wants of the co**** thread ones (cheap). Reread is initial thread

Those may be too short for this application?

I bought 50 of those, they work in some places but too short for the hood and fender to inner fender.
I cleaned up enough old ones for the hood, I'll just get some co**** thread bolts and clips for the others. Not worth wasting any more time looking for them.
PS. Sorry about the drool all over your wagon there 56longroof!

Are the old ones broken or just rusted up? Rust can be cleaned and a tap ran through the threads. No worries on the drool. I need to wash it anyway.

Broken, missing, plus I probably threw some away thinking they would be easy to replace...
